Brett McMillan had a dream after nursing school to live in a mountain town. Fourteen years later that vision turned into a very successful business.
Juniper Face + Figure saw its first client in 2019 as an established concierge-style mobile service providing cosmetic treatments to men and women in the comfort of their own homes throughout the state of Montana. Word of mouth grew, and Juniper found a forever home in Bozeman, operating now in three beautiful suites in Four Corners.
Originally from Minnesota, Brett says finding Montana was love at first sight. “I packed `up a 20-foot moving truck with all my belongings in 2009, with only $1000 to my name, and moved out here all by myself. I didn't know a single soul and it was scary and exciting at the same time,” she said.
Several years later Brett chose to make changes and search for the life she yearned for. “I didn’t want to waste any more time,” she said. “I remember sitting in the living room of my new apartment asking myself, "Okay, Brett. What do you want to do with your life?" Brett knew she had always loved helping others, as a nurse she had formerly worked in Dermatology where she fell in love with skin care, skin cancer prevention, and aesthetics. Her idea for cosmetic injectables was born.
“I spent months researching Montana law and studied statutes to ensure a nurse in Montana could perform cosmetic injectables with an overseeing medical provider. I finally got the answers I was looking for.”
And that is how Juniper was born. Because aesthetics and cosmetic treatments are not taught in nursing school (or even medical school) qualified medical professionals need additional training and certifications. In these aesthetic courses, nurses, PAs, nurse practitioners, and even medical doctors are all taught aesthetic treatments together. Brett also found that having a natural artistic ability really sets cosmetic injectors apart. “That, paired with a belief that 'more is not better' and really standing behind a natural look - is the best kind of service you can offer your clients,” she said.
Once viewed as hush-hush treatments or services only 'vain or insecure people' seek, Brett says she is beyond happy to see the paradigm shifting about the stigma surrounding services such as Botox and fillers. “Juniper encourages self-care, aging prevention, and building confidence. We are all aging and if that's something you want assistance with, we are here to help you. Even more, we don't just preach natural-looking cosmetic treatments, we pride ourselves in giving that to every single client!” She also believes there is some truth to the saying: "If you look good, you feel good. “At the end of the day, we all want to feel good. So do what makes you happy,’ she said.
Juniper has a variety of popular services such as non-surgical facelifts called EMFACE. Juniper is the first in Montana to offer that service. These involve no needles, no downtime, no pain, and no toxins. Dermal filler treatments include under eye filler, chin enhancement for profile balancing, natural lip fillers, and more. A treatment called EMSCULPT NEO permanently burns fat and builds muscle simultaneously. Juniper also offers Kybella Kybelia which permanently dissolves a double chin.
“Juniper has a different approach on cosmetic treatments”, Brett said. “We believe that less is more and we pride ourselves in creating results that truly are natural looking. Unlike many medical spas, we are also in the business of saving our clients’ money. We want to build confidence and help with age prevention, but not push unnecessary treatments.” Brett also has her own recommendations and skin tips to go along with age prevention which include using a high-end skincare line. Juniper sells ZO HEALTH, a product used for protecting skin from the sun and tanning beds. Drinking plenty of water, avoiding alcohol and smoking, going to bed with a clean face, sleeping on your back, and, including Botox and fillers to slow the aging clock are offered by Juniper.
Above all, Brett says Juniper believes in stellar customer service and building relationships. “We won't enter the room as a no-name injector in a stale clinical environment, she said. “We do a lot of things differently here and beyond providing you the very best aesthetic experience, we genuinely want to create and foster a special relationship with each of you.
