Keep Him Looking Good

Steely Lott trades her usual fashion haunts to give her dad and brother a summer wardrobe refresh.

Styling my dad and brother was definitely an experience. But—let’s be honest—I’ve been unofficially curating their looks for years. If you know my dad, Bruce Lott, you know his signature look: classic jeans, well-worn boots, and not much deviation. On the other hand, it’s no surprise my brother, Gage, keeps things a little more current, given that life as a grad student at Texas A&M University has him a bit more attuned to trends. Together, they made for the perfect mix of timeless and on-trend, which made the process all the more fun.

This first set of looks from Bechants Men’s was all about gently pushing my guys outside their comfort zones while still keeping pieces they’d naturally gravitate toward. One of the only shops on the Hill Country Mile tailored for men, this store offers a refined, masculine shopping experience, specializing in premium brands, high-quality leather goods, and sophisticated essentials.

Gage’s outfit is the perfect example of effortless versatility. Easy enough for a day on the golf course, but polished enough for a night out with friends. His go-to TravisMathew golf shorts were a given, but pairing them with a terry-cloth shirt instantly gave the look a younger, trend-forward edge.

My dad’s look is a little more subtle. At first glance, it feels like something straight from his closet, but it actually has a number of thoughtful upgrades throughout. We swapped his usual Wranglers for an athletic-fit denim that’s slightly more tailored, striking that balance between comfort and a cleaner silhouette. Finished with comfortable shoes and a versatile button-down, it’s a look that works just as well for a casual day out as it does for dinner plans, proving that small shifts can make a big impact.

Living in Boerne, the looks we found at Y-Bell Ranch Supply feel right at home. There’s something special about having access to locally owned western wear shops that truly understand the vibe and lifestyle here. The inventory here features an extensive collection of premium workwear, high-end hats, and hand-selected leather boots. These offerings cater to everyone from the working cattleman to the modern weekend adventurer, and the shop provides an authentic local experience rooted in heritage and durability. Every customer receives personal attention from staff who treat them like a neighbor.

My dad’s outfit leans into that timeless jeans-and-boots combination he’s always loved. But we’ve elevated it just enough to take him anywhere, from church to a graduation party or even a wedding. And if you ask me, every man in Texas should own at least one really good pair of boots.

Meanwhile, my brother was ready to walk out with this entire look. The cowboy-cut Wranglers were actually his own (a true testament to their staying power), but finding them in multiple washes at Y-Bell makes it easy to build on a staple piece. Styled with a simple tee, a hat that adds a bit of personality, and, of course, a solid pair of boots, the look strikes that perfect balance: comfortable, confident, and effortlessly put together.

Great men’s style doesn’t require a total overhaul, just thoughtful adjustments. By refining fit, elevating basics, and adding personality, you create looks that feel current, comfortable, and true to who they are.
