Ketchum Health Cares

“Ketchum Health, the patient care and clinical training facility of Marshall B. Ketchum University, a one-stop shop for your healthcare needs.”

There’s a reason Ketchum Health is regarded as the best-kept wellness secret in Orange County.

When it comes to keeping your health in top form, Ketchum Health is truly a one-stop healthcare facility for all your needs, providing Optometry, Ophthalmology, and Family Medicine care to patients of all ages in the Fullerton area.

“The experience provides you with comprehensive vision and eye care services, including primary care, ocular disease diagnosis, treatment, and management, full-scope contact services, myopia management, pediatric examinations, vision therapy services, Acquired Brain Injury consultation, treatment, and management, dry eye evaluation, treatment, and management, ophthalmology care, diabetic retinopathy treatment, eyelid lesions or skin tags, malposition eyelids, cataracts, and other conditions,” says Dr. Mark Nakano, Associate Dean for Clinics/Assistant Professor at Ketchum.

Ketchum’s legacy is one that has been built on a longstanding foundation. Its story began with the founding of the Los Angeles School of Ophthalmology and Optometry that, over the years, became the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO)—the third oldest school of Optometry in the United States.

In 2013, the SCCO Board of Trustees approved a university structure that would allow for additional programs, naming it after the founder of SCCO, Dr. Marshall B. Ketchum.

Dr. Nakano notes, “[Ketchum has] a rich and vibrant history of graduating top-notch clinicians. This is witnessed throughout the entire program and how each portion of the curriculum builds on each other to produce great clinicians.”

Ketchum’s specialties are wide-ranging, and all care is provided in an expansive setting.

“We have over 50 examination rooms, six diagnostic rooms, one of the largest optical showrooms in Orange County, and subject matter experts in eye and vision care.”

Ketchum Health also offers generalized care in the Family Medical Clinic, which features an X-ray Machine to check for any potential broken bones.

“If you want to have all your eye and vision care needs taken care of in one place, Ketchum Health is the best. The staff, doctors, and interns enjoy taking care of our neighbors from Anaheim, Santa Ana, Yorba Linda, Placentia, Fullerton, and all Southern California communities. We accept most insurance plans and can tailor your care to fit your needs. If the need arises, we have benefactors to aid those who may require financial assistance.”

When you seek care at Ketchum Health, you can rest assured you—and your loved ones—are in the most capable, caring hands.

“As a clinical education training facility, our doctors are subject matter experts who train the student-intern to render exceptional care,” he says.

“The examinations are thorough since we train the interns to practice full-scope eye and vision care, so you can expect the exam to take a bit longer.”

For first-time visitors, the facility’s Optical Showroom is a sight to be seen.

“Utilizing technology with the Shamir Spark-4 System to fit the lenses is paramount to providing accuracy. The dispensary has over 2,500 frames on display with an additional 500 frames in drawers. Our goal is to fulfill every patient’s optical needs, including infants, children, and adults. In addition, the optical department has a vast selection of safety glasses for protection while on the job or for the DIY person,” he says.

Ketchum Health gives back in more ways than one by supporting organizations like CareHarbor, Rotary Cares, Lions Club, BlessFest, Special Olympics, National Optometric Association Vision Events, and other events throughout Southern California.

“Additionally, we collaborate with three Federal Qualified Health Centers throughout Southern California to care for the underserved population. The Community Clinics are South Central Family Health Center, Family Health Matters, and The Hurtt Clinic,” says Dr. Nakano.

“Our students, doctors, administrators, and board of trustees are engaged with the community and continue to contribute in meaningful ways. Ketchum Health would like to be the destination of choice when it comes to your eye and vision care needs.”

“The Ketchum Health experience provides you with comprehensive vision and eye care services.”
