Finding Innovations to Cut Energy Bills

If the recent spike in oil prices hasn't got you thinking about energy saving measures, consider this: Energy audits and saving programs, experts say, can help you save as much as 30 percent on your energy bills.

“Home heating oil is over $5 a gallon, more than double what it was last year. For homeowners, that means it can cost you $1,400 to fill an oil tank,” says Peter Callan, principal of Lantern Energy, an energy conservation company that helps customers save money on their energy bills. “We can help people reduce those costs significantly by evaluating your home's condition during a home energy assessment.”

Founded in 2009, Lantern Energy recently opened new offices here in Glastonbury at 256 Oakwood Drive. The move provides the company with a central location to service its customers in Connecticut and Massachusetts with a wide range of residential and commercial energy solutions, including weatherization and insulation projects, installing full-house generators, improved lighting solutions, at-home electrical vehicle (EV) charging stations, and solar energy options.

Lantern Electrical is a separate, full-service electrical contracting company, headed by Brandon Hicks, that works in conjunction with Lantern Energy, installing the energy-saving systems that Lantern develops for its customers. Together they provide comprehensive energy strategies to reduce energy costs.

Lantern Energy also works closely with utility companies and solar firms in Connecticut and Massachusetts on energy conservation programs and incentives for homeowners, multifamily residential projects and businesses.

With increases in oil, natural gas, propane and electricity costs and the push for greener energy sources, some of the state-of-the-art and money saving energy initiatives that homeowners are seeking include solar alternatives, EV charging stations and full-home generator systems for better storm preparations, Peter says.

Whatever energy conservation solution you need, Lantern Energy works with you from start to finish, coordinating all state and local regulations and permit requirements and arranging all required inspections with local municipalities and utility companies.

"We are looking forward to helping our neighbors in Glastonbury, not only reduce their energy costs but also reduce the environmental impact of heating and cooling their homes."
