Leaning on Nature

Caroline Bullock is an Atlanta-based Artist working in cyanotype and mixed media exploring philosophical and scientific questions about the nature of reality and impermanence. The natural world, specifically the plant world, is a constant source of Caroline’s inspiration. It teaches balance, seasonality, courage, endurance, and the interdependence of all things.

Her latest body of work, This Place is a Dream, is on view at Spalding Nix Fine Art in Buckhead through May 9. Inspired by the 13th century poet Rumi, her work reflects on the transient and illusory nature of the physical world. Drawing from her interest in Gestalt theory, quantum physics, and Buddhist philosophy, Caroline created imagined landscapes using photography, paint and paper in her Buckhead loft apartment. “The indoor studio has west facing floor to ceiling windows and the roof terrace/garden not only provides endless inspiration for the work but also serves as an outdoor studio where I make my cyanotypes,” says Caroline.

Her studio, where she created these works, is located inside her Buckhead loft apartment alongside her roof terrace garden. Caroline said, “I love being in Buckhead, because I’m just blocks away from the Atlanta History Center with its lively gardens and book signing events.”
