All of us have been affected by COVID-19. We have lived differently, played differently, worked differently. Like so many industries, my industry has struggled, but differently. One of the things I have appreciated most about my career as a top-producing Realtor is that each day brings the unexpected. Having sold the most exciting and beautiful homes in my city for over 37 years, I thought I had seen everything. Boy, was I mistaken.
First, we all had to figure out how to keep our clients and teams safe. COVID-19 guidelines were quickly put into place. We followed all recommendations: masks, sanitizers, booties, even being separated by plastic barriers at closings. Masks are crucial…but not so friendly. Elbow bumps are not warm hugs. But the market boomed and the weeks flew by. Multiple contracts, “bidding wars” and low home inventory were the norm and added more anxiety to the gray fall and winter months. For the first time in my career, I sold a home to a relocating client sight-unseen…Facetime is an amazing pandemic sales tool!
Our homes became workplaces, classrooms, gyms. Never have we appreciated “home” more or had more time to peruse the search engines and websites in a quest for a first-home, a larger home, a smaller home, a retirement home, a lake vacation home (dreaming again).
The big 2020/2021 takeaway is that we now take nothing for granted. We miss school plays, basketball and soccer games, dinner with friends, going out to a movie, going to the gym, block parties, birthday parties, weddings, live office meetings, open houses… and optimistically move toward a return to “normal.”
I am thankful for the dedicated and talented people with whom I work for coming together to figure it out and dedicating themselves to our many success stories in the most challenging time. Now hold on for an amazing spring market. We will all guide you well, share some fun and look forward to the day you can “hug your Realtor” again.
The challenges of moving through the unprecedented coronavirus global outbreak has touched all our clients, our friends and our families. Our world has changed, and our homes are our sanctuaries. Though we are working differently, we continue to keep closely connected while distancing. There is no clear roadmap for the days, weeks and months of recovery ahead, but we are finally seeing a light at the end of this tunnel.
We will move forward as we always do with a generous spirit and compassion for others. Stay well, stay safe… and remember as we say at Better Homes & Gardens Kansas City: “WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER.” SUZY
