Writing has always come natural to wife and mother, Kathleen Davis. A retired teacher of ten years, Franklin resident Davis is the author of the children’s book BRAVE – with her two children being the main inspiration. As a multicultural book for children ages 2-6, the theme of this bedtime story is meant to help children feel brave, safe and loved.
Davis’s children went through a phase where they were having nighttime fears and waking her up during the night. “My kids are crazy,” Davis said. “They are loud, rambunctious, hilarious and, if I do say so myself, pretty darn adorable. So other than the constant nightly wake-ups as my inspiration, I also had the daily reminder that I had two perfect characters running around my home. How could I not write a book about them?”
Davis went through the self publishing process to get the book out to help her children and, of course, other children. However, finding an illustrator was no easy task. Davis eventually found an illustrator, Rekha Salin, based in Bahrain, on Facebook. “BRAVE is based in the nighttime, however I wanted the book to be bright and colorful,” Davis said. “She nailed it! I couldn't have asked for more.”
With the nature of the story, this book is a great read for the Halloween season coming up.
