When they say their roots are deep in Frederick County, they mean deep.
“We are all born and raised here, and now we are seven generations. I have 48 first cousins on my dad’s side and 220 second cousins,” says Dave Jr. with a grin.
Hawkins Landscaping is a family business that’s been beautifying Frederick County for 46 years. The longevity of this company says a lot.
“We started here, and we’ll be here. We have the seventh generation coming up,” says Grandpa, Dave Jr. “Our hearts are planted in Frederick County. We are involved in our community and give back by participating in charity fundraisers around the area.  We do the Polar Bear Plunge each year for the Special Olympics because I have a stepdaughter with special needs, which means a lot to me. And equally important to me is Lung Cancer awareness because I lost my dad to it. We participate in the Walk a Mile for Heartly House, and we support the local high schools, middle schools and sponsor two baseball teams.”
Dave Jr. began his company while in high school, mowing and beautifying lawns. From there, it grew and evolved with hard work and smart business moves. Through the years, Hawkins added more than simply landscaping and maintenance to their portfolio of services. “We do hardscaping, which includes patios, retaining walls, walkways, outdoor kitchens, decks and fences, water features and pergolas. Our other services include lighting for all outdoor spaces, retaining walls, grading or regrading for repairs, and outdoor fireplaces. Servicing both commercial and residential, they will do small and large projects, and building pools is something they’re thinking about for the future.
“We value quality over quantity. We work here.  We’re not going anywhere,” says Dave the third, better known as D3.  “We’re leaving to my boys, D4 and Ford Kent, a legacy of supporting others in giving back and of a business that operates with integrity.”
