Over the past twenty years, there has been a seismic shift in the electrical lighting landscape. Old technologies, such as incandescent and fluorescent bulbs, have increasingly been replaced with energy-efficient light emitting diode (LED) systems.
One of the earliest innovators in the LED lighting industry in the United States was Jason Duncan, president and founder of Energy Lighting Services (ELS). Based in Hendersonville, ELS has been implementing creative lighting solutions for businesses around the country since 2010.

Jason first became interested in LEDs in 2007, when he took notice of the tremendous opportunities offered by the new technology.
“I learned that individual LED light fixtures can save as much as 90% or more in energy as compared to their legacy counterparts,” says Jason. “A typical commercial building can experience as much as a 25% reduction in electricity costs once it has been fitted with LEDs.”
Along with energy savings, there are many other advantages to LED lighting, including brighter illumination and long-term reliability.
“Unlike traditional bulbs, LEDs do not burn out. Instead, they dim slowly over time, providing years of bright illumination,” says Jason. “Furthermore, LEDs are robust, solid-state devices with no filaments to break, gasses to seep out or glass enclosures to break.”
Today, many businesses are eager to explore the world of LEDs but are uncertain as to how to proceed. Fortunately, ELS has developed a proven project management methodology that can take businesses from concept to implementation.
“We began every retrofitting project by conducting an audit, which includes counting existing light fixtures and measuring lighting output throughout the facility,” says Jason. “Once the audit is complete, our team of lighting professionals will design a solution that will result in an efficient, safe and aesthetically-pleasing work environment.”
Once the design is complete, the implementation process can get underway in as little as 6 weeks.
“Installation time is largely dependent upon the size of the building and the complexity of the layout,” says Jason.
Since startup, ELS has completed over 200 LED projects, ranging from small office buildings to large commercial facilities. While larger buildings will benefit more, every business will experience significant cost reductions by switching to LEDs.
