Ahh. . .the dining room. The most adult room in the house. And most likely the most underused room, as well. In my house, it is periodically used as a resting room for items that are not yet put away, but happily out of sight. Now, for me, a dining room was a must-have when searching for our forever house. The small cape from which we moved had a small dining space shared with the kitchen.  So, now that I have my very own, it’s time to Gather!!! Over the years, I have built up a beautiful collection of dinnerware, glassware, linens, serving platters & bowls. Most of my pieces are white, so they match with all special occasions and holidays. I do have some antique hand me downs that I love to use along with more everyday pieces. The holidays are closely upon us and I just love setting a special table for my friends and family. If there is one thing that 2020 has taught me, it’s not the “places” that I’ve missed, it’s the people!  Let’s celebrate in style! Below are some ideas for creating your own table settings.

Table Setting Basics

  • Mix and match stemware. When using red and white wine glasses mix up stem and stemless glasses and use pieces from different sets.
  • Always use cloth napkins. They can be placed either to the left of the plate or on top of the plate.
  • Add fresh flowers to the centerpiece. I used plants from my garden here. But even in winter, you can find interesting evergreen branches, twigs, and berries outside for a seasonal centerpiece.
  • Bring in the color! I like to keep my plates white, then add the seasonal colors around them. This pop of color can be found in the centerpiece, a colorful napkin, or even a table cloth.
  • Candles add ambiance! I like to use different length candles - from tapers to tea lights. Just make sure they are unscented so they don't overpower your delicious meal!
