Life in the Fast Lane

Meet Local Car Specialist Greg Stanley

For gearhead Greg Stanley, cars are more than a hobby. He works as a Car Specialist with lauded auction house RM Sotheby’s.

“I like to say that I help clients achieve their collector car goals—whether that means finding the dream car they’ve chased since they were sixteen or guiding them through the sale as they transition out of the hobby,” says Stanley. “My goal is to make every experience with RM Sotheby’s enjoyable, rewarding and seamless.”

Stanley recently oversaw the sale of a 1962 Ferrari 330 LM/250 GTO for the record-breaking sum of $51.7 million, the second-highest price achieved for a car at auction and the most valuable Ferrari ever sold at auction.

“Being a car specialist is all about building lasting relationships within the collector car community, and being available as a trusted resource,” Stanley explains. “The family knew I worked with RM Sotheby’s, which had recently facilitated the world-record sale of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR 'Uhlenhaut Coupé’ for approximately $142 million. So when it came time to sell the GTO, there was really only one clear path—through RM Sotheby’s.”

Stanley shares his passion for cars and sense of humor as the host of The Collector Car Podcast, which counts an impressive 235,000 subscribers. On the show, he interviews experts, reviews the collector car market and shares personal experiences with cars, from Chevy Novas to exotic sportscars. He recently appeared on the web series Jay Leno’s Garage to showcase his own unrestored 1966 Pontiac GTO.

Stanley and his wife Jenni spend downtime attending classic car cruise-ins and are active members of their church.

“I volunteer with the Cincinnati Concours and often share my stories and expertise at local Rotary, Kiwanis and car club meetings,” he says.

They have enjoyed living in the Cincinnati area for nearly 16 years.

“We truly love it,” he says. “We really appreciate Cincinnati’s strong work ethic, the sense of community and the deep-rooted family values you find in Ohio.”
