Lifting up the Community

Giving back with integrity, compassion, and heart.

When you hear love local, one word comes to mind: community. Talking about community is easy, but living it day in and out is more challenging. For Ed and Nikki Burke, owners of a local State Farm Agency, community is more than just a word. To them, our community is an extension of their family.

“The way our community supports local is incredible, it has been the backbone of our success,” shared Ed Burke. That success doesn’t come for granted. As a business, they make a point to have the entire office participate in several community events together to ensure the team understands why it’s so important to continue showing up and supporting everyday life in their own backyards. When someone walks through their door or reaches out for help, it’s not a transaction, it’s an opportunity to learn and then educate each client on the best ways to serve and protect them. This way, if there is a loss or someone is in need, there is a genuine relationship established, and the Burkes are their first call, not a stranger at an 800 number in one of their biggest times of need.

The Burkes also understand there are genuine needs that need to be met for some that need a helping hand. This does not always come in the form of money. One of the local organizations the Burkes support is Metropolitan Ministries. They donate toys and food to the giving tent each year. “We also bring our children along so they can learn the value of being a part of the good happening in our community,” explained Ed.

Another organization that has been a focus for the Burkes is Marjorie’s Hope. This organization helps local students and families who cannot afford a dress or suit for homecoming and prom. The efforts put in by volunteers help bring in beautifully donated clothes and shoes for teenagers who can’t otherwise afford it, to give them a “shopping” experience to feel the excitement of finding the perfect outfit. They helped create a teacher’s boutique at Marjorie’s Hope, as well as winning a $25,000 grant that will help this organization sustain and continue to thrive.

Most recently, they partnered with Gulfside Elementary. They worked to match 149 students with Christmas sponsors. Each and every student was able to receive gifts thoughtfully chosen just for them.

For Ed and Nikki, community is not transactional. Relationships are a two-way street, built on trust, care, and shared responsibility. When the Burkes opened their State Farm agency, the community welcomed them with open arms. Giving back felt less like a decision and more like a natural response. This is where they chose to build their life together, raise their children, and plant lasting roots.

Rather than standing on the sidelines hoping the community thrives, they made a commitment to actively participate in making that happen. Supporting local schools, nonprofits, and community organizations has become a meaningful part of their everyday life. Whether it’s donating time, lending resources, or simply showing up when support is needed, Ed and Nikki believe that small actions add up to lasting impact. Giving back isn’t about recognition. It’s about being present for the people and places that make their community strong. Lifting up the community isn’t a campaign or a short-term goal it’s how they live their life. They will continue to give back with integrity, compassion, and heart. They’re proud to call this place home today, tomorrow, and for years to come.
