Lighting Up the Holiday Spirit in the Pascack Valley

As the days grow shorter and winter’s chill settles in, Pascack Valley prepares to welcome the holiday season with a series of festive events that spread warmth and joy throughout the community. This December, families, friends, and neighbors will come together to celebrate traditions that illuminate not just trees but also the hearts of everyone involved. From tree lightings to parades, the holiday spirit will shine brightly across bergen county.

Hillsdale

The festivities kick off with the Holiday Tree Lighting in Hillsdale, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in Veterans Park. This annual event transforms the park into a magical setting with twinkling lights, providing a moment for the community to unite and celebrate the joy of the season. The evening promises a stunning display of lights and the warmth of community connections that make this time of year truly special.

Park Ridge

Just a day earlier, the Park Ridge Tree Lighting will take place on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 5 p.m. at Depot Square. In the event of rain, the gathering will be rescheduled to Saturday, Dec. 14, at the same time and location. More than just a tree lighting, this event embodies the spirit of the town and the holiday traditions that bring everyone together. The Park Ridge 2024 Chanukah Lighting Ceremony will be held on Sunday, December 29th, at 4:00 pm at Depot Square. The glow of the lights, the laughter of children, and the shared excitement create an unforgettable evening that captures the essence of the season.

Westwood

One of the most anticipated events this December is the Home for the Holidays Parade in Westwood, themed "Twinkle, Shine & Glow." Scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m., the parade will take place rain, snow, or shine. Following the parade, there will be a tree lighting ceremony in Veterans Park, along with a chance for families to take photos with Santa Claus. This cherished tradition dates back to the 1960s when Santa first rode through downtown Westwood on the back of the Westwood Fire Department’s ladder truck. Witnessing Santa wave to the crowd from atop the fire truck creates magical memories for children and families that last a lifetime. Later this month Westwood will be hosting Chanukah Lighting Ceremony on December 29th, a festive celebration of light and community!

Old Tappan

The Tree Lighting event at Old Tappan Borough Hall is set for Friday, Dec. 6, starting at 6 p.m. Attendees can look forward to festive refreshments and the opportunity for photos with Santa. The evening will also feature caroling by the local Girl Scouts, adding to the holiday cheer. This community gathering promises to be a delightful kickoff to the holiday season, bringing residents together to celebrate.

River Vale

River Vale is set to celebrate the holiday season with two exciting events. On Dec. 6, join the community for the annual Tree Lighting at River Vale Town Hall from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring the Pascack Valley High School Band, festive crafts, treats, and photos with Santa. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Holdrum Middle School gym. Following this, on Dec. 26, the highly anticipated Menorah Lighting will take place at River Vale Town Hall, hosted by Valley Chabad and the Township. This beloved event promises crafts, giveaways, delicious latkes, hot cocoa, and festive chocolate gelt tossed from a fire truck, making it a unique experience for all. Montvale

Montvale is hosting its annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Center of Town Park, near the train station. The event promises free sweets and a festive atmosphere as the community gathers to celebrate the season. Children are encouraged to participate in the Gingerbread House Contest by bringing a decorated 9x9x9 house. Attendees are also invited to donate items for the Tri-Boro Food Pantry, including baby diapers, wipes, and pancake mixes. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy holiday festivities together while supporting a good cause.

Woodcliff Lake

The Winter Festival in Woodcliff Lake promises a magical evening on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m. Held at Tice's Corner, the festival features the festive lighting of both a menorah and a holiday tree, celebrating the spirit of the season. This free event brings the community together for an evening of joy and celebration. Families can enjoy the cheerful atmosphere, making it a perfect opportunity to create cherished holiday memories with friends and neighbors.

Emerson

The Annual Tree Lighting at Emerson Borough Hall will take place on Sunday, Dec. 1, starting at 5 p.m. This beloved tradition invites community members to gather at 1 Municipal Plaza for an evening filled with holiday spirit. Attendees can enjoy festive refreshments, live entertainment, and the enchanting sight of the tree lighting up the night. It’s a perfect opportunity for families and friends to come together and celebrate the season in a joyful atmosphere.

Washington Township 

The Tree Lighting Event in Washington Township will take place on Friday, December 6th at 6:30 PM. Attendees can enjoy a festive atmosphere filled with seasonal treats. And the Washington Township 2024 Menorah Lighting will be held on December 26th.  These community celebrations are a delightful way to usher in the holiday season!
