For many parents, the early years of raising children are filled with joy, wonder and unforgettable milestones. They can also be isolating.

That reality is exactly what inspired Bergen County resident Barbara Brown to bring The Bunny Hive Bergen to the Pascack Valley.
Nestled along Rivervale Road, The Bunny Hive is much more than a children's activity center. It is a gathering place, a support system and, for many local families, a second home.
Brown, a graduate of Columbia University who holds a master's degree in music education from Montclair State University, spent years teaching in public school before deciding to take a leap of faith and pursue a different dream.
"I felt that young parents in this area were desperately seeking opportunities to create a village of support and warmth," Brown says.
As a mother herself, she understood firsthand how challenging it can be to raise children while feeling disconnected from family support systems.
"My true passion is community building," she says. "I wanted to fuse my knowledge of education with community facilitation."
That vision became The Bunny Hive Bergen, an elevated social club for children and their caregivers designed to support families from pregnancy through the preschool years.
Walking into the studio, visitors immediately notice something different. There are no flashing lights or overstimulating distractions. Instead, the space feels calm, welcoming and thoughtfully curated. Children are encouraged to explore while caregivers can enjoy a cup of coffee, connect with friends or simply take a deep breath.
"We are a clean, beautiful space truly designed to feel like another home," Brown says.
But the heart of The Bunny Hive isn't found in the decor. It's found in the relationships being built every day.
For Brown, community means much more than gathering people in the same room.
"Community means someone who will hand you a diaper when you've forgotten yours," she says. "A mother willing to let your little one pick from her kid's snacks. A friend you can call when you've lost your cool and raised your voice for the first time."
Those small moments of support can make an enormous difference, particularly for new parents.
One of The Bunny Hive's most distinctive offerings is its Due Date Club, a 12-week program designed for expecting mothers. The program helps women build friendships, access expert guidance and establish support systems before their babies arrive.
"Becoming a mother happens way before giving birth," Brown says. "Having a village in place ahead of baby arrival is paramount to the well-being and recovery of the mother."
The program has resonated deeply with local families because it addresses a growing challenge many parents face: loneliness.
"Building community is paramount to the well-being of new and expectant parents," Brown says. "Our biggest enemy is loneliness."
The Bunny Hive also offers a Parenting Playbook Program that helps caregivers build confidence and navigate the challenges of raising young children. Combined with social events, workshops and community gatherings, the programs create opportunities for friendships that often extend far beyond the studio walls.
While caregiver support is central to the mission, children remain at the heart of everything The Bunny Hive does.
The studio offers a wide variety of classes, including music, art, culinary experiences, ballet, Spanish instruction and preschool preparation. Each program is taught by professionals with expertise in early childhood development.
Brown is especially proud of the music program, which she teaches herself.
"As a former music teacher, I take great pride in knowing all of our music classes are taught with joy," she says.
The focus extends beyond entertainment. Every class is designed to support developmental milestones while strengthening the bond between children and caregivers.
Through sensory play, music, movement and hands-on exploration, children build neurological connections, improve body awareness and develop critical social skills.
At the same time, parents are encouraged to be fully present.
"Our classes focus heavily on creating moments of connection between the little one and the caretaker," Brown says. "We have everything else set in the studio so that your only objective is to be present in the moment and enjoy your little."
For many families, that opportunity to slow down is invaluable.
Parents often arrive carrying the weight of endless to-do lists, household responsibilities and the pressures that come with raising young children. The Bunny Hive seeks to lift some of that burden by creating an environment where everyone feels welcome.
"We value our nannies as much as our parents," Brown says. "We love our grandparents as much as we love the littles. This is a place where everyone is encouraged to feel at home."
Perhaps the clearest measure of The Bunny Hive's impact comes from the stories Brown hears from members.
Of all the milestones she has witnessed, one moment stands above the rest.
"The most rewarding moment by far has been when a member, with tears in her eyes, told me the studio saved her," Brown says.
For Brown, that conversation reinforced the purpose behind every class, every playdate and every community event.
At a time when parenting can often feel overwhelming, The Bunny Hive is proving that families do not have to navigate the journey alone.
The friendships formed there may begin over a music class, a shared latte or a toddler's first steps, but they often grow into something much bigger.
They become the village.
And for many Pascack Valley families, that village is exactly what they've been searching for.
