Live Fierce - New Heart Health Initiative

The American Heart Association and St. Luke’s Health Join Together to Improve Heart Health in The Woodlands

The American Heart Association in The Woodlands, and throughout Montgomery County, is leading breakthroughs in science and technology and raising awareness of heart disease and stroke treatment and prevention. Through its recent partnership with St. Luke’s Health, the Association is now implementing Live Fierce, a dynamic health program dedicated to saving and improving lives.  The Live Fierce campaign will also encourage other organizations in The Woodlands to join in its heart-healthy programming, driving more equitable health for all.  Over the next three years, a variety of Live Fierce programs and initiatives will be implemented. Currently, two of the campaign’s goals include healthy nutrition education and blood pressure monitoring, recognized as major health needs within our community. The two organizations will host virtual culinary demonstrations led by Chef Andre, a leading chef from St. Luke’s. The programs will target local seniors and feature heart-healthy recipes aimed at fighting hypertension and high blood pressure. Those suffering from cancer, as well as their families, will be a key audience of the culinary demonstrations. Participants will have the chance to register for the events online and then watch the livestream videos from their own kitchens.  Additionally, thanks to the generous partnership with St. Luke’s, the American Heart Association is working with Interfaith Ministries to better implement blood pressure monitoring systems. Our support will provide Interfaith with 3 portable blood pressure machines to accurately measure patient blood pressure. Interfaith will also be the recipient of a stationary Blood Pressure Kiosk, allowing their clients utilizing other community-based services the ability to check and monitor their blood pressure outside of the clinic. Tips around managing risk factors will also be available at the kiosk.

The American Heart Association has saved and improved lives for nearly 100 years through scientific research and its work in local communities and now it is eager to carry out even better programming with the support of St. Luke’s Health in The Woodlands.
