When Jeremy, a Firefighter/Paramedic, and Breanna, a Crime Thriller Author, began dating in 2021, they quickly discovered they shared more than just a spark. They both had a passion for woodworking, leather design, and refurbishing. They started by building bird houses for their family, and before they knew it, J+B Wood Work and Designs was born.
While they still love to go back to where it all began-with owl boxes, butterfly houses, and birdhouses for all types of birds-Jeremy and Breanna have expanded into larger, customized projects such as handcrafted American Flags, Aggravation game boards, signs, corn hole boards, and so much more.
Is there anything they can’t do? “We’ll let you know when we get there.” Jeremy laughs. They strive to be your go-to carpenters for whatever your needs may be and that starts with not setting limitations. “I like the challenge—like a puzzle-figuring out how to create something new. We’ll try anything once.”
Their most popular item, handcrafted American Flags, began when a customer reached out asking for a Challenge Coin Display for her Law Enforcement husband. Although Jeremy has made flags in the past, this request took them to a new level and they have continued to expand their options. “We can design almost any customization.” Their American flags can include shelves with recessed lighting for First Responders’ challenge coin collections, carvings to represent branches of the military, as well as thin line colors for First Responders, Military, and even cancer awareness.
When asked why they do it, Jeremy says:
“It’s something I grew up watching my grandfather do. I was incredibly impressed by how he was able to take a concept and build something from nothing. I dreamed that one day I could be like him. I also think it’s something good to do; it takes me out of the realm of being a firefighter for a change.”
“It’s been wild sharing our passion with others,” says Breanna when asked about her favorite part of starting J+B Wood Work and Designs. “What simply started as a hobby is now a business being shared with people all over the country.”
