Anika Ferguson has always been an artist. While studying at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, she began working on a series focused on music and movement. As this idea progressed, she learned about the neurological condition synesthesia, which causes information meant to stimulate one of your senses to stimulate several of your senses. "I was surprised to learn that when hearing music," Anika says, "others don't always associate it with colors and textures the way I do."
"The Piano Player" is one of Anika's many paintings that represent the colors and textures she experiences when she hears a certain type of music. To her, the music of Regina Spektor or Sarah McLachlan seems to flow from this painting, but she loves to hear what music others may see in her paintings.
Now, Anika's paintings can be seen at Flowerstone Frame & Art Studio, where she is a custom picture framer and teaches students of all ages. You can learn more about Anika's work at FlowerstoneStudio.com/AnikaFerguson.
