Nature’s Healing Lens: The Art of Jeri Abel

Golden Elegance

Jeri Abel’s lifelong love of nature evolved into an award-winning photography career celebrating the restorative power of the natural world. For years, she began photographing flowers and landscapes hoping to one day turn them into paintings. Today, those dreams have blossomed into a professional career that celebrates the restorative power of the natural world.

Jeri’s roots go back to her childhood in Idaho. Her father taught her to truly observe the world, while her mother knew the name of every flower and star. Living in Utah has also shaped her vision; she is deeply inspired by the dramatic light of the Wasatch canyons and the bold textures of the red rock desert.

Jeri’s path from novice to expert was a steady climb. She began by studying art and business, eventually teaching painting and printmaking. When digital tools like Photoshop emerged, she spent a decade in graphic design, even creating materials for the 2002 Olympics. It wasn't until she returned to her own studio years later that everything clicked. By combining her traditional art training with modern digital photography, she discovered how to create "painterly" images that look like fine art.Her work has earned high praise, including "Best of Show" at the 2025 Utah State Fair for her piece, Crimson Cascade.

For Jeri, photographing flowers is about healing. After facing a season of deep personal loss, she found peace in her garden. She grows many of the blooms she captures, from dahlias to roses. By bringing them into her studio, she uses light to reveal their "quiet magic." Jeri’s goal is to help others surround themselves with natural beauty, providing a window of stillness and hope for everyone who sees her work.
