Local student makes Eagle Scout

Congratulations to Carroll High School sophomore Leo Wanjura!

Leo Wanjura, 16, a Southlake resident and Carroll High School sophomore, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America.

The multiyear journey to this Eagle Scout Award is a transformative experience for young people. Scouts learn new skills, try new experiences, develop confidence in the outdoors, practice leadership, and plan, develop and lead a service project to benefit the community.

For his Eagle Project, Leo managed over 30 volunteers in building an accessible-play "gaga ball pit" for Amy’s Wish With Wings, a Texas non-profit providing support to children with diverse needs. The ball pit features an ADA-compliant door so all may enter and play.

In addition to his service as a Boy Scout and logging over 180 hours to the Young Men’s Service League, Leo has volunteered at city events like Crud Cruiser, Senior Center dances, Southlake DPS Trunk or Treat, Miracle League, Special Olympics, 6 Stones, Discovery Village Senior Living Center, Keller Oaks Healthcare Center and RISE Adaptive Water Sports. Leo received the Southlake Chapter’s “Heart of Service” award for displaying excellence, leadership, character and work ethic.

Congratulations to Leo on behalf of his hard work for our community!

Service to others is what Scouting is all about. The Eagle Scout service project reflects a significant impact of leadership in the community. Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout is an important milestone. This journey builds character and skills for a lifetime and makes a difference for others in a variety of significant ways.
