“If you could save the lives of eight total strangers, could you — would you?”
Considerations surrounding that question and call to action are addressed in a new, limited film series created by Carmel resident and critical care nurse Robert Horsey, also an executive producer who has dedicated his 27-year nursing career to caring for organ donors and recipients plus honoring donor heroes while educating the public about this lifesaving cause. He is the founder and CEO of Gifted Productions.
GIFTED: The Docuseries is a powerful three-episode series that explores the impact and humanity of organ, eye and tissue donation. It addresses the science, logistics and lifesaving coordination behind every successful donation.
"This series reveals the real human stories behind donation: stories of love, loss, hope and the unimaginable power of generosity. They include behind-the-scenes work of donation and transplantation professionals," Robert says.
The films debuted on Vimeo On Demand, with all three episodes available for rental or purchase, offering viewers a meaningful way to learn and engage with the donation community.
Additionally, in 2015 he wrote and published Gifted: The Novel.
Robert says at the heart of GIFTED: The Docuseries are remarkable stories of three donor heroes whose legacies continue to save and transform lives: Heather Miller, Maissa Abdallah and Maddie Grobmeier. Their journeys, and the families who bravely share them, form the emotional foundation of the series.
"These journeys shaped GIFTED into a heartfelt, informative and deeply human narrative," he adds.
“After years in development, I’m honored to share these amazing stories of triumph over tragedy with everyone. Releasing GIFTED allows us to amplify the message of donation, uplift donor families and inspire viewers to consider registering as magnanimous organ donors.”
Notably, Robert says one person's tissue donation can enhance the lives of 75 people.
