Lost in Her Worlds

Filmmaker. Manga creator. Smyrna native. Robbie J. Atkinson crafts stories that dare you to dream deeper.

Robbie J. Atkinson doesn’t just tell stories -- she builds entire universes. From the glow of a film set to the quiet flick of ink across a manga panel, the Campbell High School alum and founder of RPX Media Production is on a mission: “More stories. More wonder.”

“I’m drawn to that sweet spot where filmmaking and manga overlap,” Robbie explains. “It’s not about the genre -- it’s about building a world your audience wants to get lost in.”

That philosophy pulses through her illustrated novel The Seventh Kingdom: Fukushuu no Oukoku, a manga -- a Japanese-style graphic novel -- about a sheltered young woman’s eye-opening journey for revenge. The story was born from personal heartbreak -- written in the wake of Robbie’s father’s passing and a career burnout that forced her to pause nonprofit work. But what emerged wasn’t just cathartic -- it was electric.

“I needed an outlet for my grief,” she shares. “What surprised me most was how many people connected with the story -- over 200 fans across 21 states. That kind of support? It’s humbling.”

Whether she’s storyboarding a manga scene or directing actors on set, Robbie’s creative process toggles between fluid imagination and meticulous precision. “Manga is abstract -- vision boards, lore bibles, flexible panel work,” she says. “Film? That’s shot decks, lighting plans, and perfect takes to catch raw emotion. It’s a dance of discipline and discovery.”

Her love of layered storytelling traces back to Smyrna roots -- specifically, the literature classrooms of Campbell Middle and High School. “That’s where I learned to analyze narrative depth,” she says. “It was the perfect foundation for my film theory studies at Georgia State.”

What’s next? A feature-length version of Kalimba, a short film already turning heads. She’s also in talks to bring The Seventh Kingdom to life as an animated series. Big things are coming -- and Smyrna can say they knew her when.

With new projects on the horizon and a growing fanbase cheering her on, one thing’s clear:
Lights, camera, imagination -- Robbie’s just getting started.
