Looking for a fun and luxurious glamping experience? We found it at Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo, located just a couple of hours from Naples. We went for the Smore’s and Pours experience to roast marshmallows and sip bourbon by a cozy campfire at a real-life dude ranch.
Westgate River Ranch is the largest dude ranch East of the Mississippi. The resort lies on 1,700 beautiful acres, and is surrounded on all sides by approximately 400,000 acres of state and federally-protected wetlands. It's the perfect weekend getaway for families with small children, and offers an experience steeped in Florida's cowboy history.
Their private airstrip made getting to the resort so convenient. Once we were there, we cruised around in our own personal golf cart and took in all the sights. We stayed in a covered wagon equipped with all the modern amenities, including a comfortable bed, bathroom, kitchenette, and breakfast delivered each morning. The resort is home to many animals, and we had the opportunity to get up close and personal with horses, cows, goats, chickens, pigs and rabbits.
Westgate River Ranch boasts a multitude of recreational activities, including horseback riding, swimming, golf, a petting farm, nature hikes, trap and skeet shooting, hayrides, cookouts, and a full-service marina complete with boating, fishing, and airboat and swamp buggy rides. One of the highlights of our stay was the rodeo, which is the longest-running Saturday night championship rodeo in the United States. Perhaps the most memorable part of our trip was my daughter’s love for the mechanical bull. She couldn’t get enough!
Overall, the Westgate River Ranch Resort was the perfect destination for a weekend getaway with our 11-year-old daughter. With plenty of activities, luxurious glamping accommodations, and friendly staff, there was no need to leave the property during our stay. We highly recommend this resort for anyone looking for a fun and relaxing glamping experience.
