Skincare solutions for a fresh and beautiful look

A great skincare regimen is important all year round, but especially in the wintertime. Here is some expert advice on how to keep our skin healthy and beautiful not only when it’s cold, but all year round.

“When looking for skincare products, it’s always good to research medical grade skincare lines as they contain more potent ingredients in their mixtures and they're more medically developed to actually transform the skin,” says Heather Dunn, the head aesthetician at Fresh Face & Eye in Chatham.

Dr. Baljeet Purewal, a board-certified Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon, and the owner of the practice takes her time to research the ingredients she puts into her products to really benefit the skin, says Heather. “It's always good to look at the label and make sure the first few ingredients are the important ones like vitamin C, retinol, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and various collagen peptides.”

The best regimen is one that you will do every day. She recommends incorporating retinol into your routine, especially in cold weather. “Retinol is basically a form of vitamin A, and it helps to boost collagen in our skin and also gently exfoliates our skin to help renew it and keep it looking fresh. I personally love our product Radiant Me. It combines vitamin C and retinol along with other amazing hydrating peptides to help brighten and exfoliate your skin.”

Switching over to a heavier moisturizer in the wintertime is also necessary. “We have a great one called Nourish Me, which helps calm down the pink tones in our skin and also helps brighten it,” says Heather. “The peptides also really nourish skin's health.”

Of course, we should be incorporating sunscreen all year round. “The sun is a big factor when it comes to aging the skin, so finding a good SPF that you love and will wear every day is smart. We should always be moisturizing our necks too.”

The older our skin gets, the more care it needs. As we age, the natural exfoliation process of our skin slows down, so she says it's critical to incorporate a retinol regimen and other exfoliating acids because they’ll help shed dead skin cells faster. “We have Brighten Me pads and they really help to brighten the skin and lighten brown spots."

She says one of their most popular procedures, especially around the fall and winter, is the BBL PhotoFacial. “It helps promote a more even skin tone and builds collagen in your skin.”

Also important is to use an eye cream on upper and lower eyes because the eye skin is thin and delicate, so you want to protect that. For puffy eyes, Fresh Face & Eye offers Revive Me masks that are enriched with collagen, peptides and hydrating serums. The YUMILash Lift is another great option for eyes. “It helps lift and curl your natural lashes and also tints them to make them a little bit darker,” she says.
