Local agent Ruben Cardenas, Jr. has been serving the Boerne community for almost 35 years. Now with State Farm Insurance, Cardenas remains committed to providing top-notch service and products tailored to his clients' needs.

“You can buy insurance from anybody, so I have to add value to what people expect for them to continue to do business with me,” Cardenas emphasized. That’s why he has focused his career on getting to know people, their families, and their needs. In fact, some of his long-term clients’ children are now grown and getting their own vehicles, so Cardenas is excited to continue his relationships with new generations.

Having raised two daughters in the Boerne area, Cardenas prides himself on building relationships with other locals. He believes that being part of the Boerne business community also means supporting other local businesses. With many new residents calling Boerne home, these newcomers are looking for insurance agents, doctors, dentists, and other professionals in the area. Cardenas sees this as an excellent opportunity for businesses to support each other by making informed recommendations about area companies and services. He believes that doing this is good for everyone’s business and can make the transition easier for our new neighbors.

Whether you’re new to town or a long-time resident, Cardenas is ready to help you and your family ensure your insurance works for you.

To ensure you’re getting the most out of your insurance, Cardenas emphasizes the importance of ensuring your coverage is sufficient. Rather than recommending a generic amount for home or auto insurance, he stresses the importance of confirming that your coverage fits your specific needs.

For instance, Cardenas explains that if your home is valued at $400,000 but you choose to insure it for only  $300,000, you would be responsible for the $100,000 difference in the cost of rebuilding your home. “People want to compare what they bought their house for to what it would cost to rebuild, and they’re not the same,” Cardenas explains. With the exponential growth of new homes in Texas, builders may sometimes offer discounts on the initial sale price because they are building in bulk. However, your home’s actual value may be higher, especially when considering the cost of rebuilding.

When it comes to auto coverage, the minimum insurance requirements in the state of Texas are known as “30/60/25,” which equates to $30,000 in coverage for personal injury, a total of $60,000 per accident, and coverage for up to $25,000 in property damage. While this meets the state-required minimum, it may not be sufficient if you were at fault. Cardenas emphasized that if you have assets, savings accounts, and checking accounts, you could be exposed to a lawsuit if you are responsible for property damage or injury to another person, but your coverage is too low. Ultimately, he states, “You do not want to go bankrupt.”

Additionally, you could also face financial exposure if someone who is under or uninsured hits you. Uninsured motorist coverage comes into play in these situations. This add-on coverage is designed to help protect you and your family if you are injured or your car or truck is damaged by someone with no or limited coverage. Like other categories of auto insurance, limits can apply, so it’s essential to determine what you and your family need to feel safe.

Insurance that effectively protects your family and assets may require considering many uncomfortable possibilities. That's why Cardenas emphasizes the importance of having a trustworthy professional to help think through all of the relevant factors. The right agent, he says, will focus on getting to know you personally so that they can ensure you have the proper assistance you need to recover from the unexpected.
