To say our spring season did not turn out as planned is an understatement, to say the least. My brother, Robby, and I spent months thoughtfully putting together our Spring ’20 lineup, and just as we hit our stride had to close our doors. We pride ourselves on seeking out boutique lines from Europe with exclusivity in Atlanta. Sportswear makers such as Germano, Giangi Napoli, Giannetto Potofino, and Bruli with Italian hand-tailored clothing from Barba and Castangia mixed with popular lines such as Peter Millar, johnnie – O, Faherty, Hickey Freeman and Samuelsohn. Though you may find those brands elsewhere, we buy them differently offering a merchandise mix unlike any other. We were especially excited about what we assembled for our clients this season and created our most comprehensive mailer of events themed “Spring is coming to Atlanta – Dress for the Occasion”. Oh the irony!
What do you do? You reflect, adapt, evolve, and make the best of the circumstances. We stepped up our social media game having fun with a clothing-related Throw Back series with old family photos on Instagram, improved our website and added an e-commerce platform which is growing daily. Our customers received notifications that we were still here for them and could be reached by phone, text or email at any time. We continued to clean, sanitize, disinfect and follow social distancing guidelines offering private appointments providing masks handmade by our tailors. FaceTime appointments proved to be very productive and we were able to generate a little business with complimentary shipping, local delivery and curbside pickup all part of the service. Though most of what we offer is not considered essential birthdays, anniversaries,graduation gift buying did not cease and some just needed a little safe “retail therapy”.
Postponed weddings, graduations, interviews and other special events will be rescheduled in most cases and Miller Brothers will still be ready to dress Atlanta’s men for the occasion. In addition to all the wardrobe basics we have an amazing selection of sport coats in lightweight silk, wool and linen blend fabrics. Paired with summer weight gabardine trousers, dress shirts from Eton, Stenstroms, Emanuel Berg or our Private Label collection and it all starts to come together. Our collection of colorful neckwear will actually make many men want to put on a tie and a pocket square from the best collection in town is a must.
For those less formal occasions, we have casual trousers in washed cotton twills, wool/linen blends form PT Torino, Incotex, Peter Millar Collection and others and our Five-Pocket selection is tremendous. Sport shirts in classic seersucker checks, washed linens, cottons and performance fabrics to printed patterns and always something unexpected. Our neon pink heavy oxford cloth shirt from Hamilton is not for the faint of heart. For those not afraid of a little color our knit shirt collection is a must-see with unique color tones in cotton, linen, and performance fabrics too. Warmer weather means shorts and swim trunks need to be updated. We have all the basics but plenty more to catch your interest like an old school washed cotton plaid and “all day” shorts made of quick-dry material you can swim in too.
I’ve barely scratched the surface but must also mention our “Great Wall of Shoes”. It is expansive and diverse with classic loafers and lace-ups but so much more. Vibrant green suede casual loafers from Santoni, tan distressed suede rubber-soled casual wingtips from Di Bianco, and Chukka sneaker-boots from ToBoot. driving shoes, sneakers from G. Brown and SeaVees (think Sperry designed by Jeff Spicoli), boat shoes and flip flops from Peter Millar and Martin Dingman too. Of course, we have a belt or three to go with all of them.
We planned one heck of a party and so many were unable to attend so we shall try again!
