When men get together (not just for a business dinner or a round of golf), invariably the go-to destination seems to always be a steakhouse. I'm just not a huge steak fan. To help out those who share this carnivorous conundrum, here are a few steak places that you can find comfort outside the typical New York Strip:
The Continental
They have a fantastic selection of starters and sides, and other excellent non-steak mains - from their decadent pate, to the sweet corn souffle, to a great restaurant burger, to a killer pork chop. It also has the best service in town in a gorgeous urban garden setting.
Martin Fierro
I have a dear Argentine friend whose nickname is the 'Meat King'. So where does this Goliath of the grill go when he doesn’t feel like cooking? He heads to Martin Fierro off Livingston. If you’re not a steak person and you’re feeling the Pampas pull, their empanadas are for you - flaky and filled with all sorts of savory goodness. Throw in their classic fried, cheese dish, Proveleta, and the “don’t ask, just eat” sweetbreads, and wash it down with some Malbec, and you’re in 'Boca del Cielo'!
10K Alley at the JW Marriott
And finally…we head down to Marco for 10K Alley at the JW Marriott. Yes, I’m fully aware that this isn’t a steakhouse, but imagine if you will a Dave and Buster’s for adults, with a bourbon list that rivals any in the area, forty craft beers on tap, and some pretty tasty BBQ style burgers and sides. Give me a Four Roses Single Barrel and the ability to air hockey the heck out of my buddies, and that’s a recipe for a great night!
Until next time...yours in deliciousness,
Mr. Bites
"While I love a good night out with the fellas, I’m just not a huge steak person (unless you throw some good Chimichurri on top), so often I find myself at these dinners hoping that there is something more than a seafood tower and potatoes au gratin!"
