Navigating Medicare can feel overwhelming, but for those in our community, help is right around the corner. Gallatin Lifestyle sat down with Elizabeth Hobdy Jones, owner of TN Medicare Concierge, a local, family-owned agency dedicated to guiding the 65+ community through the often-confusing world of Medicare. With a personalized approach and a heart for serving neighbors, Elizabeth, alongside her husband Brad and their team, works to simplify choices, clear up misconceptions and tailor health policies to fit each individual’s needs.
GL: Medicare can feel very intense—what’s the biggest misconception people have when they first come to you?
Elizabeth: We have a ton of people come to us with horror stories and advice friends have given them—“Don’t go with this plan,” or, “Make sure you do or don’t do this.” The reality is, every person has different doctors, travel plans, medications, etc. and our job is to tailor a policy for their needs, not their friends or family. A lot of 65+ clients also want to continue working, and there are a lot of misconceptions about what those next steps look like.
GL: Your website mentions offering “peace of mind.” What does that look like for your clients in practical terms?
Elizabeth: The process has many unknowns. Our team walks the client through it while giving them details on the next steps and what plans to place them in. We also have a full-time customer service representative who is always there to answer any questions. Additionally, Brad takes great pride in staying in touch with our clients throughout the year. He also sends out a personal email every open enrollment to re-engage with them.
GL: Beyond coverage, how does Medicare impact everyday life, and how do you help people feel more confident about their choices?
Elizabeth: People don’t realize what signing up for the wrong Medicare plan can do. For example, if you are someone who travels a lot or lives somewhere secondary during the winter, the wrong Medicare plan could ruin your life. You could be signed up for the wrong plan and not be in network with a doctor you need to visit. It’s never too early to start planning what your health insurance will look like when switching over to Medicare. We go through training every single year to stay on top of all of the annual changes so that we can best assist our clients.
GL: What is the most fulfilling part of assisting the 65+ community with their Medicare needs?
Elizabeth: There is a need for hands-on advice when it comes to Medicare. We have loved helping them and hearing their success testimonies, but it’s super rewarding when they send their parents and friends to us so we can help them, as well. We look forward to continuing to watch this vision of ours grow!
