Meet Heather Broomhall

Exploring identity, beauty, and authenticity through conceptual portrait photography practice

Heather Broomhall is an artist and photographer whose works explore the intersection of beauty, identity, and the tension between who we are and who we are expected to be. “We don't change our lives by becoming someone else. We change our lives by becoming more fully ourselves,” says Broomhall.

With a background in fine art and fashion design at Central Saint Martins and Polimoda, Broomhall approaches photography as both a creative discipline and a study of self-discovery, often blending conceptual storytelling with a fashion-inspired twist.

Exploration has always been the foundation of her creative journey. Long before a subject sits in front of the camera, she is investigating ideas, emotions, and questions around identity. Her work often begins with a question rather than a final destination, exploring concepts from their earliest stages through final display. What has evolved over the last 27 years is a deeper study of the stories people carry, the roles they perform, and the influence of social expectations.

At the heart of her work is the belief that identity and beauty are not something to be achieved. This philosophy informs an ongoing exploration of self-perception, belonging, and the ways identity is shaped by culture, memory, fashion, and society.

Whether exploring a place, an idea, an expression, or identity itself, Broomhall's work invites viewers to look beyond the surface. From her newly opened portrait studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she continues to explore authenticity, perception, and what it means to truly be seen through portraits, branding imagery, and conceptual studies.

“Who are we when we stop performing? That is truly worth exploration,” says Broomhall.
