Meet Ken Hughes

Home Solutions Expert

Meeting Ken Hughes, you might be inclined to pick his brain about smart heating and cooling solutions for your home or business. Do you really need to change HVAC filters every year? (Yes) Can you assess the health of your furnace by its functionality and appearance? (No)

Ken owns Milton Mechanical Services, the premiere heating, ventilation, and air conditioning specialist in our community. He and his team of technicians handle air conditioner tune-ups, wireless thermostat installation, heating and cooling design, and servicing & repairs for residential and light commercial spaces.

Ken is as affable as he is knowledgeable. His expertise on all-things HVAC means the customers of his family owned and operated business will get honest and thorough service. “There are a lot of old furnaces out there,” says Ken from his Alpharetta warehouse. “We do more than just a visual check. We actually measure combustion parameters and carbon monoxide.  If someone says you need a new furnace - get a second opinion.”

But, there’s more to this level-headed professional than just his HVAC company’s success.

You may find him at the Alpharetta Farmers Market on Saturday mornings where he helps gardeners, growers and healthy eaters through the natural fertilizers and micro greens harvested through Skolex Bio Technologies, where he is a partner. The company works from the ground up, developing natural fertilizers harnessing the power of worms to make worm casting soil fertilizers and amendments. Using the rich nutrients of the worm castings, Skolex grows healthy, tasty micro greens that are used in salads, smoothies, sandwiches and more. Skolex also grows flats of wheatgrass and barley grass for local customers, and supplies fun indoor kits for do-it-yourself micro green gardeners.

This month, expect to find a variety of nutritious and tasty microgreens - broccoli, kale, radish, peas, and sunflowers. The Skolex team can help with micro greens DIY kits with everything you need to grow micro greens at home.

The organic worm castings are made from coffee grounds and adorable fertilizer art  (slow release fertilizer blocks for your indoor and outdoor plants), organic gardening advice and worm bins are always freely provided by Ken and his team, along with cool metal garden art welded by local artist Zachary Darnell.

Whatever your home or gardening interests are, you’ll find Ken ready for a conversation with solutions.

And, September is still a cooling month for sure, but kids are back to school and it’s time to schedule filter changes and heating safety checks in starting in October.
