As we welcome Kennedy Rettew as our PVCL intern- and officially part of our family- we thought it would be fun to ask her 10 quick questions. An ASU senior and the mastermind behind Kicks by Kenna, she’s already crushing the creative game, and we can’t wait for you to meet her.
What are you studying at ASU, and what inspired your major?
My major is Graphic Design. I'm grateful I had encouragement and support from my family and friends who helped me pursue this path.
Why are you excited to intern with PVCL this fall?
I fell in love with PVCL the second we got connected. I love the energy, the mission, and Nadine is an absolute powerhouse and a huge inspiration to not only me, but to many women in the business world.
Describe your company, Kicks by Kenna.
Kicks by Kenna is my custom shoe painting business! I paint mostly shoes, but I also paint jackets, cleats, and so much more! I've worked with every major professional sports team in the Valley, and many more in the US! Read more in the April 2025 PVCL issue. :)
If you could customize sneakers for anyone, who would it be?
For sure Taylor Swift! She's had a huge impact in my life through her music, and I'd love to honor her with custom kicks.
How do you balance school, business, and life?
I swear by good time management. When things get extra busy, I even set timers!
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I am a HUGE car lover and grew up around cars. NASCAR championship weekend is a holiday at my house and F1 is always on TV.
Since it’s October… what’s your most memorable Halloween costume?
Definitely the year I dressed up as Napoleon Dynamite, complete with a “Vote for Pedro” shirt and all!
If you could design a sneaker inspired by Halloween, what would it look like?
Think nostalgic 2000s halloween, meets “Hocus Pocus!”
Looking ahead, what’s one goal you’re excited to crush after graduation?
I am excited to see where life takes me! I am grateful for the community's embrace, and am excited for what's to come.
What’s your hype song?
Hands down: “Miss Independent” by Ne-Yo.
