Pointina, a Connecticut and New York City-based company, was founded by two best friends Elizabeth Buffone and Meredith Flenzini Evans, who met in the Junior League and bonded over their shared passion for creativity. "We started talking about needlepoint and realized how much we both enjoyed it. From there, the idea of Pointina was born," Elizabeth explained. Their mission is to create a modern, welcoming space where people can learn needlepoint, build connections, and find joy in a mindful, hands-on craft.
Meredith, an architect, and lifelong needlepointer, learned the craft from her mother and grandmother. "I’ve done it on and off throughout my life,” she shared. Elizabeth also grew up around needlepoint but didn’t fully embrace it until the rise of the grandmillennial aesthetic. "I always saw my mom needlepointing, but there weren’t really any canvases that spoke to me. Now, with the opportunity to create our own canvases, I finally feel inspired to stitch," she said. With Elizabeth working full-time in social media and as a content creator, they naturally started building a community through the videos they posted about needlepoint. "We started posting some videos of our projects, and people were really interested in learning how to do it," Elizabeth noted. This momentum led to the creation of Pointina, a brand that makes needlepoint more accessible through curated workshops and a vibrant online community. The goal? To make needlepoint a rewarding, social, and creatively fulfilling experience.
Every month, Pointina hosts a free Sip & Stitch event, bringing members together to connect, unwind, and stitch in a welcoming setting. They also partner with brands like the Junior League and Pure Barre to host beginner-friendly workshops, each featuring a custom, hand-painted canvas designed to resonate with the brand’s community.
Workshops include a kit with high-quality supplies: a custom canvas, curated threads, and all necessary tools. Participants are guided through foundational stitches and leave with the confidence and inspiration to continue at home, working toward a handmade, heirloom-quality piece.
Beyond learning a new skill, Pointina workshops foster connection."There’s something special about sitting down with others, working on a project, and sharing stories," Meredith explained. "Needlepoint can be a solitary craft, but we’re transforming it into a social experience."
Wellness is a key pillar of Pointina. Elizabeth, a trained meditation teacher and Reiki healer, incorporates meditation into each workshop.“We’ve found that starting with meditation helps people feel more present and engaged in the creative process,” she said. The repetitive nature of stitching is inherently meditative, reducing stress and promoting focus. Research shows that crafting activities like needlepoint can lower cortisol levels by up to 50% and enhance overall well-being. By blending mindfulness with creativity, Pointina offers a space for relaxation, connection, and artistic expression.
Workshops are designed to be enjoyable and accessible, ensuring participants leave feeling encouraged rather than overwhelmed. "We want people to feel proud of their progress, even if they don’t finish their piece in one sitting," Meredith said. Each kit includes a stitch guide with diagrams and QR codes linking to video tutorials for continued learning at home.
What sets Pointina apart is its focus on community, creativity, and modern accessibility.
Meredith and Elizabeth are dedicated to making needlepoint more inclusive while honoring the craft’s rich history and artistry. The brand’s strong online presence, particularly on Instagram (@pointinastitchclub), has played a key role in building an engaged following. As they continue to grow, the founders envision expanding their offerings, hosting larger events, and deepening their impact within the creative community.
"It’s incredibly rewarding to see people come to our workshops, have fun, and leave with a project they’re excited to continue," Elizabeth said. "We’re just getting started, and we can’t wait to see where this journey takes us."
