Meet Rada and Manuel "Manny" Machin. The dynamic duo with a practice in Rockville has opened a second office in Frederick. Read on to learn more about them!
How did the two of you meet and what were the qualities that attracted you to him/her?
Rada: We met the first day of law school. I loved his hair and thought he was handsome. Then I got to know him better and we became good friends with many similar interests, views and morals. I grew to love him for the calculated and honest man he is.
Manny: I saw Rada the first day of law school and it was love at first sight. She had a really great presence about her and then I found out how smart and strong she is, which are both things I admire deeply about her.
Why did you choose to practice law?
Rada: I chose to go to law school because I wanted to help people seek justice or a just result, which was a utopian goal, but is truly my motivation in my practice. I love searching for solutions to simple and complex issues and help guide people and businesses through their legal issues.
Manny: I always wanted to go into public service and once upon time thought I may pursue a political career. I enjoy helping people and the practice of law helps me engage in my community and make an impact in a positive way.
How do you balance work and home life since you both are busy attorneys in private practice?
Rada: There are many hard days, but they are all good days! We enjoy caring for and loving on our beautiful daughter who is almost 2 years old. It is hard to manage toddler activities and a thriving practice, but we are incredibly lucky to have family and many friends who are always helpful.
Manny: We usually tag team our efforts, which is like a relay race. We split the deck in our case load, and use every hour of the day, including weekends sometimes.
What are you especially passionate about when it comes to your community and why?
Rada: I've been elected co-president of the MOMS Club of Urbana this year. I am extremely passionate about this group, who it serves, and the mission. The ladies in this Club are a lifeline to me. I love the community involvement and the support that the Club gives many organizations including the Urbana Food Bank and the Heartly House for women in Frederick.
Manny: Everyone in Frederick County was so welcoming the minute we moved in. I have enjoyed earning the trust of my neighbors and friends in this community. I love patronizing our local restaurants, barbershops and golf courses.
What fact amazes you every time you think about it?
Rada: As a newer mom, for me the fact that the female human body can grow another human being is incredible. The amount of effort, strength, grace and healing is what amazes me.
Manny: Being a newer father, I am amazed how fast babies grow! It has truly been amazing watching my child grow and it has really made me value the sanctity and beauty of human life.
When passengers are permitted to travel into space, would you want to go and why or why not?
Rada: I doubt it. I get anxiety thinking about being in a little spaceship surrounded by empty space. I think heaven is on our beautiful earth and I want to spend as much time here as I can.
Manny: Probably not. There is too much here on Earth that I like, I also do not like being unsure if I would make it back. I’m also not sure space has the amenities I like yet either.
Is there a book that has had a great influence on your life?
Rada: I frequently reference teachings from Plato’s The Symposium. I thoroughly enjoy the philosophy of love and have used many lessons from love philosophers in my own life. My greater understanding of the tenant of loyalty, stages of love, and types of love, come from The Symposium.
Manny: Man's Search for Meaning by Victor E. Frankl is one book that I always go back to. It teaches you so much about putting your life and its challenges into perspective. More importantly, it is a book that teaches you how to overcome the most difficult of circumstances and to never give up.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Rada: I enjoy spending every minute of my spare time with my handsome husband and beautiful daughter. We like to go on adventures and explore our beautiful Maryland from the mountains to the coast. Watching our daughter absorb information and soak in the sights is one of the best joys of my life.
Manny: I love going to the Catoctin Zoo and Green Meadows petting farm with my wife and daughter. It is so fun to see the way they both marvel at the beautiful animals, especially the peacocks.
Describe your spouse in less than five words.
Rada: He is my light.
Manny: Can’t live without her.
