Do the right thing now, and the results will come later. Doing the right thing isn't just a core value at MEND Services, it’s a way of life. In 2012, Steve Strauss and his wife Whitnie learned their middle son had a rare genetic disorder called X-linked creatine transporter deficiency. At the time, Steve enjoyed a very successful career with a national equipment rental company, but his job required him to travel Monday through Thursday each week. Following the diagnosis, Steve wanted to be more intentional and present with his family at home. He connected with two life-long friends and started a service business with a specific focus on high-end, in-house skilled labor. In late 2013, Steve quit corporate America and became the operating partner of MEND Services.
Beginning with minor remodels and carpentry work, the company has expanded to offering major remodels, additions, and new construction. In 2020, MEND decided to pursue adding licensed trades including electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians. These licensed trades are critical for new projects as well as service work.
Dripping Springs residents since 2007, the Strauss family understands the growth of our community and the need for dependable, reliable partners in construction. “Most companies tend to subcontract a big chunk of their work, and that model can leave big gaps in quality, schedule, and budget,” Steve points out.
This is precisely why MEND chose to hire employees instead of contractors. This shift ensures a special experience for all their clients. In addition, they use a robust communication portal that includes text alerts, technician profiles, and a comprehensive system summary. This allows homeowners to plan their day and trust who is showing up. After service, customers receive an immediate summary of the work performed.
Steve is proud of his employees and the company that MEND has become. He explains, “We’re training our technicians and leveraging technology to give our customers a great experience with proactive communication and excellent execution. We’re in this for the long haul.”
