As we head into fall and winter 2020, menswear trends are all about comfort. Because of the times we’re living in with many men working in home offices, dressing has taken a more casual turn. The trick for the stylish gentleman is wearing garments that provide a tailored look while being very comfortable.

Eric Frank, creative director for Q Clothier, is incorporating a lot of interesting fabric blends into classic silhouettes and focusing on timeless patterns. The focus is all about technical fabrics and stretch.

“The suit may be changing but it will never go away. Like it always has, from decade to decade, it evolves and morphs into something new and needed in that moment,” Frank said, “As we face new challenges, new ways of working, new ways of living, men need comfort, men need movement, men need something easy. Due to this we continue to see soft tailoring become more and more important. Technical fabrics, deconstructed jackets all engineered around creating that perfect, in-the-moment menswear garment.”

“The modern gentlemen understand the importance of fit, the notion that one can dress more casually but still be the best dressed man in the room.”

–Eric Frank

Men’s 2020-21 style to-dos:

Q: Why choose custom clothing for men?

A: The fit. For example, men’s apparel stores like Q Clothier take precise body measurements and determines fit preferences down to the size of watch a man wears so the cuff can fit over it properly. Custom clothiers also provide fabrics from the finest mills and can personalize each garment adding a stich, special buttons or monogramming.

Q: So, I’ve decided to get a few custom pieces. What is the process?

A: From start to finish, the timing is around four weeks. Most start with a client appointment to determine fabric preferences and garments. Measurements are taken and the process begins. Eric Frank of Q Clothier says, on average, a client will come in four weeks later for a final fitting and they are done. Depending upon your garment of choice, and average price for a shirt at Q is $200; a sports jacket is $1,195; and suit is $1,495.

Q: What are the top five items that men should purchase this fall to update their wardrobes?

A: These five items will freshen men's fall looks:

  1. Custom peacoat
  2. Flex cotton pant in khaki or black
  3. Cashmere crew neck sweater
  4. Unconstructed soft jacket in cement or merlot
  5. Printed scarf
