Chandler’s dining scene is having a moment.
Across the city, more than a dozen recent restaurant openings have brought everything from scratch-made breakfasts and authentic Greek fare to Indian food served through a drive-thru window, Revolutionary War-themed ice cream, and seafood boils to town. Add several first-to-market concepts and a major Brazilian steakhouse, and there is plenty to explore this fall.
For those who believe every great culinary adventure should start with breakfast, The Original Pancake House (4010 S. Arizona Ave.; OPHChandler.com) recently debuted its second Valley location at Fulton Ranch Towne Center, nearly 40 years after its Scottsdale restaurant opened its doors. Founded in Portland in 1953, the brand remains committed to fresh Grade AA eggs, pure whipping cream, and real butter, using them across a menu that ranges from its famed Dutch Baby and Apple Pancake to Swedish pancakes, crepes, waffles, and scratch-made corned beef hash. Also putting mornings front and center is Red Brick Eatery (2095 N. Alma School Road, Chandler; http://www.redbrickeatery.com), a family-run Southwest American restaurant built around scratch-made breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch. The project comes from two longtime business partners who previously helped revitalize Poverty Bay Café in Washington, together with two other family members. The foursome is placing fresh ingredients, local partners, coffee, and hospitality at the center of a neighborhood gathering place where the goal is as much about connection as what lands on the plate.
From there, Chandler’s newest arrivals take a decidedly global turn.
Among the most novel is Tikka Drive (80 W. Warner Road; TikkaDrive.com), Arizona’s first Indian food drive-thru. Founder Rahul Sahota draws inspiration from his family’s Punjabi roots while translating traditional dishes into a fast-casual format without sacrificing preparation. Five clay tandoors imported from India keep the kitchen humming, and there are no freezers or microwaves on the property. The kitchen turns out naan alongside butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, paneer tikka masala, and vegan chana masala.
Indian flavors are also taking an unexpected form at Tandoori Pizza (4985 S. Arizona Ave.; TandooriPizza.com), the California-born concept that chose Chandler for its first Arizona restaurant. Here, traditional pizzeria favorites collide with aromatic Indian spices and sauces in creations including tandoori chicken and curry veggie pizzas. The fusion continues through the rest of the menu with tandoori wings, cheesy Desi sticks, and pastas including Shahi paneer and pesto chicken, creating a decidedly different take on pizza night.
Mediterranean flavors are equally well represented. Shawarmaati Mediterranean (4985 S. Arizona Ave.; Shawarmaati.com) brings a taste of Amman, Jordan, to town, introducing the Valley to a brand already established overseas. As its name suggests, shawarma takes center stage, complemented by the big, spice-driven flavors and familiar dips, sides, and grilled specialties associated with the region.
Nearby, Blue Donkey Greek Eats (3120 S. Gilbert Road; BlueDonkeyGrEats.com) looks to four generations of family culinary history dating to the early 1900s. Traditional recipes come through in hand-wrapped pitas, customizable rice bowls, fresh salads, and souvlaki, but the signature loaded fries provide the most playful introduction. Insider tip—do not miss the Zeus Fries, a twist on a gyro that tosses crisp fries in lemon-oil vinaigrette and feta before piling on gyro meat and garlic tzatziki.
Across from Chandler Fashion Center, family-owned Maza Mediterranean (3491 W. Frye Road; MazaHalalFood.com) similarly focuses on generous portions and recipes made in-house daily. The halal restaurant builds plates around hand-cut kebabs, gyro meat, rice, salad, hummus, and tahini, with marinades, seasonings, and sauces prepared from scratch.
Mexican food gets a fresh addition with Sol Azteca Mexican Kitchen (70 E. Riggs Road; SolAztecaMK.com), which recently expanded beyond its original Mesa home for the first time. The Cortez family has built a following since 2018 around homestyle Mexican cooking, and the Chandler restaurant follows suit with burritos, street tacos, and masa-based specialties, notably its Molcajetito. A self-serve salsa bar allows diners to customize the heat, while aguas frescas, beer, and margaritas round out the casual dining experience.
Looking to make dinner more of an event? Chandler has plenty of options there, too.
Arizona-born Angry Crab Shack (3033 S. Gilbert Road; AngryCrabShack.com) recently unveiled its newest location in Chandler, marking the brand’s first ground-up build with local franchise partners, the Appiah family. The hands-on experience—complete with live seafood tanks—begins by selecting seafood, which can range from shrimp and crawfish to crab and lobster, before choosing a signature sauce, heat level, and additions for a customized Cajun boil.
Also joining the experiential dining fold is Fogo de Chão (2134 S. Santan Village Pkwy., Gilbert; FogoDeChao.com), which brings nearly 50 years of Brazilian churrasco tradition to the area. An open churrasco grill puts the action front and center as gaucho chefs butcher, grill, and hand-carve fire-roasted cuts including picanha, bone-in ribeye, and lamb chops. Its signature Full Churrasco Experience pairs those selections with the expansive Market Table and traditional Brazilian sides, while Bar Fogo offers cocktails, South American wines, and smaller plates.
Finally, there are some Chandler newcomers that provide plenty of reasons to save room for dessert.
16 Handles (4040 S. Arizona Ave.; 16Handles.com) recently brought its self-serve frozen dessert experience to Fulton Ranch Towne Center, offering 16 rotating flavors spanning frozen yogurt, ice cream, and dairy-free selections. Dozens of toppings transform the standard experience into equal parts dessert and edible art project. Then there is Brooker’s Founding Flavors Ice Cream (2560 W. Chandler Blvd., BrookersIceCream.com), where American history gets a sugar rush. The Utah-born concept recently chose Chandler for its first Arizona location, immersing guests in Revolutionary-era America while serving super-premium ice cream with names including Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Cookie Dough, John Hancock’s Signature Mint Chocolate Truffle, and Alexander Hamilton’s Not Throwing Away My Scoop. Even drinking chocolate gets the historical treatment, with 13 varieties representing the original colonies.
