In the world of childhood cancer, hope often takes center stage. For Claire and Nick Mracek, hope came in the form of their daughter, Millie, and her courageous battle against cancer. Tragically, Millie's journey was cut short when she passed away in 2021 at the tender age of 3.5 years old. However, out of their grief and love for Millie, her parents established The Mighty Millie Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization with a resolute mission to make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer.

Millie’s battle with cancer began in May 2020 when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma.  Although initial aggressive treatment showed promise, the cancer eventually recurred and spread, presenting the Mracek family with an unimaginable challenge.

Undeterred, they sought multiple medical opinions and pursued various treatments, but the options for Millie remained limited. She endured further rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, displaying unwavering courage and strength throughout her battle. Millie and her family fought valiantly for every precious moment they could share together.

The Mighty Millie Foundation's primary objectives are both inspiring and impactful:

1.  Mighty Millie Popsicle Project: This initiative involves providing organic freezer popsicles to children's cancer treatment centers across the nation. They currently serve an impressive sixty-four hospitals, not only bringing smiles and moments of joy to young patients but also providing much-needed hydration and nourishment.

2. Supporting Research: The foundation is committed to funding research efforts focused on less toxic and more effective treatment options, with a particular emphasis on rhabdomyosarcoma advancements. They have funded two brand-new trials and actively engage with research groups nationwide.

3. Supporting Other Nonprofits: The organization also extends its support to other nonprofit organizations that were instrumental in Millie's journey. Six nonprofits working tirelessly in the field of childhood cancer receive the foundation's support.

The Mighty Millie Foundation has left an indelible mark on the landscape of childhood cancer research. They have funded crucial studies and trials, such as the IN:Formation Project with Beat Childhood Cancer and a collaboration grant with the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research. These contributions are driving advancements in the understanding and treatment of childhood cancers.

The foundation raises funds through various channels, including community popsicle stands and donations. They also have partnerships with businesses that support their cause. For instance, Good Kitchen in Smyrna Market Village has played a significant role in spreading awareness about childhood cancer through their association with the Mighty Millie Foundation. This restaurant promotes Millie's story and the foundation by providing a popsicle promotion and displaying a mural inside their establishment.

September, designated as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, is a significant period for awareness and fundraising efforts.  This past September, the foundation received the honor of being invited to the White House to speak on a panel for President Biden's Cancer Moonshot Childhood Cancer Forum. Such recognition only fuels their motivation to continue this essential work to honor Millie.

The foundation's vision is to expand its reach, providing popsicles to more hospitals, funding research, and serving as a source of inspiration for the childhood cancer community. Their commitment to the cause remains unwavering—Together, forever, they fight!

To support the Mighty Millie Foundation's mission, individuals can participate in events, fundraisers, and giving opportunities. Giving Tuesday, End of Year Giving, and local giveback events provide ongoing avenues for support.  For the local community looking to get involved, hosting a popsicle stand in your community is a meaningful way to contribute. Additionally, visiting the Childhood Cancer Awareness Mural in Grant Park is a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting this cause.  Visit their website at mightymillie.org to learn more.
