Modern Farmhouse With Function and Style

The Welsh family was on mission to find the perfect location for their ideal home. They landed on a large secluded lot on a private road, which included a house that needed a major renovation and additional space to fit their very active family of six, plus their two large dogs. They assembled their design team to work together on the look, feel and flow of their home. The ask: a “Modern Farmhouse” that was livable, elegant and functional. Doing it right the first time mattered most.

What makes this home unique? Location, style and function. Cory Connor, an interior designer from Chatham, innovated magnificent functional design details that were a custom fit for this family’s active lifestyle.

The kitchen is surrounded by white cabinets and warmed with dark wood tones in the flooring. The island’s bar stools, covered in light grey textured fabric and accented with warm wooden legs, adds to the softness of the room. There is also a  custom-built table, built on a track recessed into the floor, that allows it to be moved away without scratching the floor. Flexible yet chic for entertaining a large group for fundraising and family events.

The open kitchen design flows into the family room, which continues to carry the softness and brightness with the neutral wall color, area rug, and furniture infused with warm coral and rich blue tones.

The Welsh’s dogs, Lozier and Leia, are a particularly important part of the family. Cory designed a dedicated area for them that includes unlimited access to the outside via a dog door, which is activated by their collars, like a garage door, and concealed by custom millwork. Functional and beautiful! There is also a dedicated dog shower for these two active pooches.

The rich and elegant Crypton fabrics and rugs were selected with performance and elegance in mind and were treated for the family’s active lifestyle.

Why is it important to work with an interior designer? “Having an interior designer helps you avoid costly mistakes and brings your house together in a cohesive way,“ says Cory.

The Welsh’s modern farmhouse is truly the culmination of design with purposeful intention to meet the family’s every day and ever-changing needs of the place they call home.

“Their lifestyle inspired the design,” says Cory, who exceeded every design challenge to give the Welsh family a functional and magnificent home.
