Hyatt Centric Buckhead pours a Valentine's cocktail

 Ingredients

  • 1.5oz Distillery of Modern Art Vodka
  • 1.5oz LS Cream Liqueur
  • .75oz Orange Curaçao
  • .5oz Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 1 Bar French Broad Cranberry Orange White Chocolate

Preparation

  1. Proper Equipment and Base Spirit: For this recipe, having a good set of shaking tins, strainers, and glassware is key. Using a Boston shaker tin (we love the Koriko weighted tins), add 1.5oz of Chamblee’s Distillery of Modern Art vodka. This new distillery, founded by Seth Watson, is a unique space that includes an art museum, event space, and cocktail lounge.
  2. Balance and Proportions: The cumulative gathering of ingredients – both large and small – can make or break the overall high, middle, and low notes of a cocktail. We’ve chosen to use 1.5oz LS Cream Liqueur, a black-owned and operated company, as our cream base for the Modern Love recipe. The Haitian “Krema” recipes, passed down from generation to generation, offer a rounded mouthfeel and light tropical flavor that is unmatched on the market and the palate.
  3. It’s All About the Shake: Incorporating cream of any kind into a recipe requires a long and intensive shake. After adding the .75oz Orange Curaçao and .5oz heavy cream, fill the tin with ice, cover with a larger tin and make sure there is a tight seal before giving it a good 30-second shake to aerate the drink and create a delightful foam on top.
  4. Glassware: We’ve chosen a classic Nick and Nora glass to keep your drink looking sleek and frothy. Once you’ve unsealed your tin and set the strainer on top, gently pour into the glass, letting the cream head form before grating a small amount of the French Broad Cranberry Orange White Chocolate as a garnish to bring a nice tart finish to this otherwise smooth drink.

Bartender and creator Lala Heusel-Culclasure said of the creation process, “I wanted to incorporate local ingredients in a drink that has the versatility and the muscle to withstand seasonal changes and base spirit flexibility.”
