When these Hallbrook homeowners wanted something progressive and a convergence of styles, best described as a blend of Art Deco (warmth, richness and funk) and Scandinavian Modern (white, ease, textures), they enlisted the design genius, Kerri Frazier, owner and founder of Relative Lighting, to formulate and execute the vision. Frazier was involved in every step of the process from planning to execution, and selected, designed and coordinated every detail. While Frazier handled the design aspects, the talented team at Noblit Didier Design + Build completed the entire main floor remodel.
“When scaling back to accommodate a minimal, modern vibe there's a stronger focus on the materials and the aspect that each brings to the space,” Frazier explains.
For some of the most important furniture pieces, this creative team collaborated with Matt Castilleja for design and fabrication. Castilleja’s design and craftsmanship skills are impeccable, and his contribution to this project was key. This project was a strong collaboration between the homeowner and all creative professionals involved.
The refrigerator was designed to look like an armoire, dressing up the traditionally utilitarian appliances. For this, and all cabinetry, Frazier worked closely alongside Mike McAnerney at Profile Cabinet. All kitchen cabinetry is solid rift sawn white oak in a dark stain.
“The best design tip I can offer is to collaborate. Collaboration expands you and always gets you the best end result,” Frazier says. “Stay curious about new ideas.”
Key Design Points
Home office: The desk is fabricated with a honed, hand-shaped Roman travertine base on one side and a simple leg on the other. With its soft, triangular shape and maple top, this piece quickly became a favorite. Matt Castilleja added this to his line of furniture offerings and named it after the homeowner: the Suzi Desk.
Banquette Area: The built-in, floating banquette is covered in an Edelman leather. This custom organic form table has a beveled edge, fabricated with rift sawn white oak top and three walnut legs. The custom chairs are made from white oak.
Orange sitting chairs are Mitchell Gold-Bob Williams Kirby Chairs covered with a Mark Alexander mohair fabric. The art above the orange chairs is an original carving by Graci Studio.
