When it comes to money, “your future self is going to thank you for what you're doing right now,” Jeff Wood promises.
For Jeff, financial planning is about making good financial decisions. That includes helping parents teach their kids how money works, protecting loved ones from unnecessary stress, and making retirement years secure and stress-free.
A father of four children between the ages of 9 and 16, Jeff has made it a priority to teach his kids how money works and encourage an entrepreneurial mindset.
For example, when his son Jake was eight years old, Jake filled a wheeled cooler with candy bars and drinks and sold refreshments at Saturday soccer games.
“He was making about 22 bucks an hour as an eight-year-old,” Jeff laughs. Later, when Jeff asked him to unload the dishwasher, his son responded, “How much will you pay me?” Jeff offered 50 cents, and his son countered, “I can make way better money selling at the games.” Jeff chuckles about the lesson his son learned. “He’s just figured out he could make a lot better money by being entrepreneurial,” Jeff says.
But Jeff knows not every child grows up with hands-on financial lessons at home, and it’s not taught in school, either. That gap concerns him.
“I think it’s important to teach your kids what you wish you would have known.” So when asked, Jeff often meets with his friends’older kids to walk them through the fundamentals of saving, investing, avoiding bad debt, and building real wealth.
Jeff knows that without that knowledge, young adults can quickly find themselves in trouble. Credit card offers, student loans, car payments—financial decisions pile up fast after high school. Jeff says people don’t know what they don’t know, which is why financial guidance is so valuable.
Jeff worked hard to hone his own financial skills. He spent years in corporate finance, working for big accounting firms like KPMG and Deloitte & Touche and as an executive in accounting and finance.
But something was missing.
“In corporate finance and accounting, you don't always see how your efforts reach the bottom-line people and make their lives better,” Jeff says. “With what I do now, I actually see a client get a far better return than they would have gotten on their own based on what they were doing.”
That direct impact is what drew him back to financial planning. Now, at Elysium Financial, Jeff helps clients navigate everything from investments and retirement planning to tax strategy and estate planning. He feels that what sets his firm apart is its fully integrated team approach. Estate planning professionals, tax preparation and tax planning specialists, and financial and wealth management advisors work collaboratively under one roof, ensuring every piece of a client’s financial life is aligned and working together for their best interests.
As fiduciaries, Jeff and his team are legally and ethically committed to putting their clients’ interests first. That standard is foundational to how they serve families. Every recommendation is made with the client’s long-term well-being in mind.
Jeff has seen firsthand how preparation can ease emotional burdens during life’s most difficult seasons. He recalls working with an older couple to ensure their funeral arrangements and burial plots were fully paid for and clearly documented. When the husband passed away, Jeff’s office was one of the first calls the family made to ensure everything was in order.
“It took a big load off the family because while their dad was alive, he was able to give input on what he wanted,” Jeff says.
Moments like that remind him why he chose this path—to help care for families.
