At Mosaic Home and Market, owner Yancey Kenna Martin merges her passion for interior design and gourmet food into an intimate boutique shopping experience. The shop encompasses Mosaic Home décor upstairs, Mosaic Market gourmet foods downstairs, and an office for Mosaic Interiors, Martin’s interior design firm.
Martin moved to Chattanooga via New York, Nashville, and Los Angeles, bringing with her a love for eclectic artisan creations. “When I moved here and began working with clients, I ran into a bit of a challenge finding accessories, the little things that make a house feel like a home, that fit my aesthetic,” she explained. “People come to me because they want quality, color, pattern, and texture. We have fabulous stores here, but I wasn't seeing the artisan aesthetic being expressed as well in the market.”
She also loves to entertain and host dinner parties, specifically creating beautiful tablescapes, and would often have trouble finding what she wanted for final touches, including items for her menu. “I'm really drawn to beauty and quality, and I want that expressed in my hosting too. Honestly, I'm not the world's biggest chef, but I'm a fabulous reheating,” Martin shared with a chuckle. “So, there were a couple of stores in Atlanta where I was going to get the things that I needed.” Martin opened Mosaic Home and Market to fill this gap in the Chattanooga market.
Everything in the shop reflects quality craftmanship and an elevated aesthetic chosen by Martin. Walking through Mosaic Home means connecting with artisans from around the world. Customers find Tamegroute pottery from Morocco, marble paper photo albums from Milan, earthenware pottery from France, linens from Egypt, and hand-painted dinnerware from Portugal, Greece, and Italy. For a local flare, customers will find Martin’s collaborations with Ignis Glass for handblown tumblers and goblets and designer paper flowers made by local artist Ashley Folkner. “I'm getting to tell the stories of so many incredible artists,” she said. “To walk around, touch, feel, and be in the same room as their as their expertise and as their creations is so fun.”
“Downstairs in the market, we apply the same principles of quality and beauty to the food we carry, sourcing from small producers with the best quality,” Martin shared. “You’ll find take-and-bake gourmet meals, bringing a little bit of a gourmet feel right here in Chattanooga.” Entrees include pizza from New York, soup dumplings from San Francisco, Alaskan seafood, southern staples such as pot pies from a catering company in North Carolina, and from-scratch pasta, ravioli, and fresh spaghetti from an Italian family in New Jersey. Also available are Indian dishes from local chef Sujata Singh of Spice Trail. Dessert offerings include from-scratch pies, also available in a gluten-free option.
The market includes ready-to-go meals for any time of day, including breakfast, but also components such as marinated proteins, soups, and broths - all available for the easy creation of a gourmet meal without all the stress.
