Munchy's Malt Shop

A Fun Destination in Westfield

Munchy's Malt Shop is a 1950's inspired Ice Cream Shop open year round. Serving old fashioned malts, shakes, fresh made sodas, and much more. Debbie Schultz and Al Bonyeau opened on March 15, 2019. And while Debbie could never predict that their one year anniversary would be celebrated with the start of a pandemic, Munchy's is still serving up smiles! Even if it is 6 feet apart!  So, while you never need a reason for ice cream, we couldn't think of a better time to take a break from 2020 and travel back to happy days!

What is Munchy's Malt Shop specialty?

"Munchy's is well known for our milkshakes. We have several Specialty Milkshakes and we are currently working on some new ones. The favorites so far seem to be Chocolate/peanut butter, S'mores which was inspired by customer Ellen Trapp, Creamsicle which was created by an employee Heather O'Connor, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Our Cheesecake series, and Pumpkin Pie."

Why do you think people like Munchy's?

"We think people enjoy coming to Munchy's for the nostalgia.  Every milkshake is made to order.  Since they are all made by hand, they do take a little bit longer but the end result speaks for itself. We have been told that our root beer floats taste just like the old A&W's. All of our sodas are made in house and we have a great selection of flavors and are working on more. We also serve Gifford's ice cream, which is truly amazing. We also have 13 flavors of cotton candy!

How did you have to pivot your business during the COVID-19 crisis?

"We did reduce the hours of operations.  We are currently open Tuesday through Sunday 12-8pm.  But lucky for us we have a takeout window. So, we were safely still able to provide for our customers. We had actually created the specialty shake due to COVID-19 just to keep the interest out there. We try to get on FB, Instagram, Tumbler, and Twitter as much as possible."

What do you hope to accomplish this year?

"Well, this year is tough due to COVID-19. We originally had planned to be making at least double what we did last year.  Unfortunately, that is not the case so we would hope to be able to stay in business.  Our customers are fantastic and always ask us how we are doing. Honestly, we are afraid we might have to close our doors if business doesn't stay constant all year. This past winter was very slow. "

What do you love about being in business in the Westfield community?

"We love seeing all of our customers. They are the reason we are here. We especially love seeing all the little kids. They brighten our day! "
