Small businesses enhance the fabric of our community. As a new business owner, myself I have come to appreciate the many roles’ women entrepreneurs play both professionally and personally. Here are a few of my favorite local women-owned businesses that will help bring a splash of color into your life!
1. Started by Taylor Handfelt in 2016, out of her family home in The Woodlands, Piney Rose has expanded to having the prettiest floral boutique off Research Forest. Stepping in, you are instantly hit with the fragrance of fresh flowers. The mostly women-run shop also carries thoughtful gifts and has an arrangement bar offering classes along with a space to build your own succulent arrangements. Piney Rose values giving back to the community. They not only repurpose leftover flowers from weddings or events and deliver them to elderly patients but also support nonprofits and give a portion of their income back to local ministries.
2. Natives of The Woodlands and longtime friends Brooke and Amy launched Picnic and Pine last year offering an alternate dining experience in the beautiful natural setting of The Woodlands. Great for date night, life celebrations, or a day out with the ladies, Picnic and Pine helps you plan and set up a luxury picnic in a location of your choosing. Picnics can include charcuterie boards, floral arrangements, and a photographer to capture the moment.
3. Melissa Polomsky is the creative entrepreneur behind The Artwerks. After graduating with a BFA in Studio Art and Art History in 2012, Melissa began her business selling original artworks online to collectors from all over the world. Artwerks offers a collection of home decor, jewelry, and fabrics that are focused on bringing you bright colors and fun eclectic patterns. Polomsky’s work can be found across the curated pages of interior design magazines and on a variety of products in all 50 states and 25 countries! Featured on HGTV, Melissa’s colorful prints have even made their way into swag bags for the Oscars!
