Mission-driven businesses are few and far between nowadays. For most, revenue reigns king - and this hunger for profit has a way of turning intrinsic passions into extrinsic motivations. For Joan at Navi Chocolate, this couldn’t be further from the truth.
The motivated chocolatier decided to launch her own shop in January 2020, after learning of the heartbreaking child slavery associated with big brand chocolate. However, crafting delectable chocolate has been a hobby of hers since 2008. Joan started purchasing organic, direct trade cacao beans from Nicaragua; the proceeds are applied to critical infrastructure efforts where the beans are harvested.
Joan fully believes that without her family, it wouldn’t have been possible to bring her passion to life. The company’s products have a unique twist to their branding, too. After visiting a wolf and wildlife center on a family trip, Joan fell in love with three distinct wolves - Navi, Tala, and Orenda - whose names she would later apply to her business and first two chocolate products.
