A new year naturally inspires a return to healthy habits, better routines, and a desire to feel our best. For many people, an overlooked part of that journey is also one of the most transformative: a healthier smile. At Gronberg/Sugay Orthodontics in Highland Village, building beautifully aligned smiles along with confidence has been the heart of the practice for more than 17 years.
As a child, Dr. Kimberly Gronberg dealt with the common difficulties associated with misaligned teeth and braces, but her attentive orthodontist made the transformation process unique and much easier to bear. Touched by her doctor’s consideration and inspired by her own changes in confidence, she thought that perhaps one day she would pursue dentistry.
Years later, Dr. Gronberg graduated from the Baylor College of Dentistry, a widely known top orthodontic program. She then pursued opening a place of her own where patients felt cared for, known, and supported—just like she did. In 2008, she opened the doors to her own practice.
Throughout the years, Dr. Gronberg’s vision has stayed consistent, with much of the office staff staying the same and committing to the comprehensive care of their patients.
A major part of the practice’s recent evolution has been the addition of Dr. Charlene Sugay, who trained in the same orthodontic program and shares an aligned treatment philosophy based in care and compassion. After six years as an associate, she and Dr. Gronberg became partners. Together, the two team up to treat patients with a rare form of consistency.
“She’s incredibly smart and thoughtful,” Dr. Gronberg said. “Honestly, the control freak in me said at one point that I would never want a partner, until I met her. She’s definitely the right person.”
Their collaborative approach is possible largely because the practice remains privately owned and devoted to a single location. In a world where corporate dental offices are increasingly common, Gronberg/Sugay Orthodontics is committed to personal connection. When patients call, they speak directly to the same team. When parents have questions, they have immediate access to the doctors who know their family.
As the health-focused mindset of a new year takes hold, the doctors emphasize the powerful ways orthodontic care supports overall wellness. For children, early screenings around the age of seven can reveal bite or airway related issues that are easiest to correct during growth. A simple panoramic X-ray can make a big difference in ensuring a child’s health.
“You don't think about your orthodontist being the one to diagnose airway issues,” said Dr. Gronberg, “but we are kind of the frontline because we can see how the palate is forming.”
Taking early action in these cases can prevent more complex treatment later and avoid disruptions in growth and cognitive development.
For children, teens, and adults, advancements in orthodontic technology have opened the door to discreet, effective care. Clear aligners have made significant strides and include newer systems able to handle complex cases, allowing adults to pursue a healthier smile without disrupting their routines.
The emotional impact of a confident smile is just as important. Dr. Gronberg often sees patients begin treatment shy, avoiding eye contact or hiding their teeth. As they engage with the office and their alignment improves, their confidence blossoms. Their posture shifts, their personalities emerge, and they begin to smile openly.
Whether you want to make a transformative change for yourself or set your child on the proper path for oral health, Dr. Gronberg and Dr. Sugay assure, “It’s never too late to get the smile you’ve always wanted.”
