Since starting their business in 2007—during which time they ultimately settled in their current Greeley office at 1813 61st Ave. three years ago—Dr. Kevin Marr, wife Dr. Kami Marr and their highly seasoned team have made it their mission to provide personalized, compassionate dental care to local families.

"We met in dental school in Lincoln, Nebraska," Kevin—a native Ohioan turned Nebraskan—fondly recalls of his wife of 21 years, herself a longtime Northern Coloradoan who went to high school at Greeley's University High.

"Kevin was two years ahead of me in dental school," Kami recounts. "He completed a residency and worked at a community clinic before I graduated, and then we both worked and lived in Minneapolis for four years."

Though the up-and-coming dentists enjoyed their stint in Minneapolis, the pull back to what would become their collective home here in Greeley was strong, especially when an opportunity that Kami couldn't turn down came along—one that would change both Kevin's and her life forever.

"The fellow that I worked with—shadowing him as an intern in high school—was getting ready to retire, called me up and asked when we were coming out to take over his business," Kami laughs. Kevin was ready for a change himself, and off to Greeley they went, never looking back.

Kevin admits that he really didn't know what he was going to do in his youth, even after he hit his undergraduate years. He did have a certain yen for science and craftsmanship. A guidance counselor brought the two interests together with a revelatory piece of advice: "Have you ever thought about going into the dental field?"

Kami, on the other hand, can hardly remember a time when she wasn't thinking about how she'd make her lifelong dream happen—including that fateful internship shadowing her future mentor, Dr. Jim Shaddock, during her time at University High.

"I always loved math and science, and my mom was a nurse," Kami says. "I was introduced to the medical world through that," she continued.

"I first considered medical school early in my life, but my mom was there to tell me the hours could be less than desirable. I had a lot of dental work growing up, so I can empathize with patients. I've also always been drawn to people's smiles."

When asked what it’s like to have gone to dental school together, to travel as journeymen practitioners and be partners in both life and business, Kevin beams brightly saying, "We don't know any other way to do it. For us, this is what it has always been and always will be.” Kevin jokes, “Frankly, I think our two sons are getting kind of tired of hearing Mom and Dad talking about dentistry all of the time!"

Kami finds their dedication to dentistry equally joyful, noting that both she and Kevin have their own specialties—she prefers working with children and restorative dentistry, for example, and he enjoys cosmetic cases and smile design. As such, there's a definite give-and-take in their shared business where each Marr complements the other in a way that has made both their marriage and office work so well.

"One thing I've found, not having been from Greeley, is that people here are really genuine," Kevin observes. "There are very nice people here; generally, just good folks, overall."

"Greeley has changed so much since I went to high school here," Kami reflects. "It has become such a vibrant new place in a lot of ways. But it has been my home for so long, and I always knew, even with all of my moving around, that I'd come back. And now, here we are!"
