New Year's Resolution? Morning Smoothies!

These Yogurt, Fruit and Spinach Smoothies Are a Great, Healthy Way to Jumpstart Your Mornings

Banana & Blueberry Smoothie

1/2 cup of plain greek yogurt

1 banana, peeled

1/2 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries

1 cup milk of choice

1/2 cup raw baby spinach

Smoothies are an awesome way to start your morning. Easy on the stomach and bursting with a sweet fruity flavor, even most kids won't turn their noses up at a smoothie, especially if you add a touch of powdered chocolate. Smoothies are also a great post-workout meal by themselves or when you add your favorite protein powder to the mix. Peanut butter makes a great addition and adds healthy fat. This blueberry-banana smoothie is jam-packed with antioxidants and iron, thanks to the blueberries and the addition of spinach. It's also a great way to get some leafy greens into your diet as the spinach, once blended with the other ingredients, is undetectable in the finished product's taste! The banana adds plenty of sweetness but you can also kick up the sweet factor with vanilla yogurt or sweetened milk. Place the yogurt in a blender and add the chopped banana pieces, blueberries and spinach. Pour a half cup of milk in and start blending. Add another half cup of milk, in a continuous stream until smoothie reaches the desired consistency. If too thick, keep adding more milk to thin out. You can also toss in 1-2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal for added fiber and omega 3's. Serve the smoothie in a tall, chilled glass.
