Dry January never tasted so good

After the indulgences of the holidays, you may be ready to kick off the new year with a healthier habit. Dry January – abstaining from drinking alcohol for the first month of year – is an annual tradition for many. It first began in 2013 as a public health campaign in the United Kingdom and has become increasingly popular around the world.

Let these delicious recipes inspire you to raise your glass with creative and colorful alcohol-free beverages.

Gin-Gin Mule Mocktail

Makes: 1 mocktail

Prep time: 5 minutes

Chill time: 0 minutes

Total time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

·      2 oz zero proof gin alternative

·      .5 oz simple syrup

·      .5 oz lime juice

·      1.5 oz ginger beer

·      5 mint leaves

·      Club soda

·      Lime wheel and mint sprig, for garnish

Equipment

·      Rocks glass

·      Cocktail shaker

·      Citrus squeezer

·      Muddler

·      Strainer

Instructions

1.     Gently muddle the mint leaves, simply syrup and lime juice in a cocktail shaker.

2.     Add zero proof gin alternative and ice, then shake well.

3.     Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.

4.     Top with ginger beer and a splash of club soda.

5.     Lightly stir and garnish with a lime wheel and mint sprig.

Non-Alcoholic Sangria Punch

Makes: 8 cups

Prep time: 5 minutes

Chill time: 2 hours

Total time: 2 hours, 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cold cranberry juice cocktail
  • 1 cup cold orange juice
  • 1/2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
  • 3/4 cup pink lemonade flavor drink mix
  • 3 cups cold lemon lime soda
  • 2 oranges, sliced
  • 2 limes, sliced
  • Sliced strawberries and fresh mint leaves, for garnish

 

Instructions

1. Mix first four ingredients in large glass or plastic pitcher.

2. Stir until mix is dissolved.

3. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

4. When ready to serve; stir in soda and fruit.

5. Pour over ice and add the sliced strawberries and mint leaves as garnish.
