The Memphis-based Novick Cardiac Alliance (NCA) was created in 2014 by Dr. William Novick who believes that every child born with heart disease should have access to the care they need to live a long and healthy life. Dr. Novick's important work impacts some of the 1.3 million children born around the world with heart defects yearly, regardless of gender, ethnicity or religion. In addition to life-saving surgeries, his team aims to improve local healthcare providers' skills, knowledge, technology and experience in countries without access to pediatric care.
Just this year, Dr. Novick and his team visited Iraq, Ukraine, and the Democratic Republic of Congo and performed extraordinary surgeries, such as the one they did in Lebanon for a little girl named Sham. Sham, diagnosed with a life-threatening cardiac illness, recovered quickly and happily, thanks to the cardiac alliance.
Dr. Novick and his team gave Sham a teddy bear for her bravery, as they do for all the brave children they perform surgeries on. These gifts are made possible through the NCA's Adopt-A-Teddy Bear program.
