Nurturing Brighter Minds

Learn from Founder and Director Steffani Wilkins about the support provided to First Foundations Preschool students

Happy campers. Busy bees. Shining stars. What do all of these have in common? They are teacher-chosen mascots at First Foundations Preschool!

Born out of a vision to build the next generation, First Foundations has established itself as a safe and secure place for children to flourish. It provides a consistent environment in which those children have faith in. With 40 years of education experience, Founder and Director Steffani Wilkins understands the powerful impact that quality school programs have on students.

“My mother was a kindergarten teacher. When I had a day off of school, I absolutely adored going in and helping her,” says Wilkins. “Our children are like little sponges, and nothing makes me happier than watching them expand their knowledge and learn how to do things differently. I love being part of their development.”

Wilkins enjoys both going down the hall to see what the kids are up to and having them run to her office to show off what they can do. Every day, she witnesses the teachers at First Foundations fostering encouraging communities within their classrooms.

“We have a phenomenal team that isn’t here for the paycheck, but instead because education is a passion for them,” says Wilkins. “People say this is a hidden gem. You feel warm and welcomed, and like your child is given the love, attention, and nourishment that they are looking for. Parents also thrive in this environment as they get to know other parents.”

On top of learning hand-eye coordination and speech-to-print reading, First Foundations students are taught to recognize the needs of others. By participating in community projects, such as collecting gifts and food for those less fortunate, they discover the value of giving back. They come out knowing how to be good friends and good people.

“When children walk into First Foundations, they have a toolbox that’s empty and we’re filling it up. Once they leave us and they don’t have extra help in the classroom, they can go into their toolbox and retrieve things they have learned,” says Wilkins. “You can learn so much more when you’re having fun. You don’t even know you’re learning!”
